Arrow 2007-2011 Dana 30 Inner Axle Sleeve Kit

2011 Dana 30 truss kits

Does anyone have actual experience with this kit for the Dana 30 in a 2007-2011 JK? I am having my gears changed in 2 weeks and I figure this would be the time to do this. What kind of labor hours are involved in this alone?

Well, I'm adding a Detroit Truetrac in the front pumpkin and don't plan to go above a 33 inch Duratrac, but I figure the kit is cheap enough and if labor is not all that much, considering they already have the axles out...
I've contacted the shop for labor charges, but since its Sunday, I don't really expect an answer today.

i dont know how much labor your shop will price you.

i had my dana30 sleeved, gusseted, regeared, when I put in my arb lockers.

it's more of a cheap insurance thing with these axles. it can still break, but it's going to take a little more force.

I would say to add about 3 hours for the installation of the sleeves/gussets with the axles and carrier already out. Find out what your shop's hourly rate is and multiply it. Some shops may differ in time and/or rate so it is hard to say what it will cost without contacting your preferred shop. I would definately have this modification performed while the axle is apart though. Also, try to have it done by a shop that is familar with this type of modification as someone inexperienced may cause more damage to the axle than good by putting too much heat into it and warping it or damaging ball joints and/or seals.

I prefer to remove the entire front axle as it is much easier to drill and weld with the axle on the bench rather than still under the Jeep. Many shops perform this modification with the axle under the Jeep but in my opinion the hour spent to remove the axle is time saved trying to stand on your head to weld and the complete job comes out much better.

I have a few pictures of this in my build thread in my signature that shows the process if you want to look at them.

Mike.

Time is too short and I don't want to worry about it this time around, so I passed on ordering it.

Here is what my installer quoted me:

"Yes we have done them before its a very good upgrade the axle tubes are so thin. It would be and extra $100 to weld them in. If you want to do the C-Gussets it will be an additional $140 labor for them you have to remove the upper ball joint in order to get a good weld on them"

That is not a bad price but you do not have to remove the ball joints. I wrap a wet rag around the ball joints and weld a small section at a time and then go to the other side. I then hit a few plug welds in between the next round of welds.

I use an infrared temperature gun to keep track of heat and when the area gets back to around 90-120 degrees I will start another cycle of welds. I also start the rosette welds on the bottom of the axle so it somewhat preloads the axle housing with no weight on it.
