2008 2-Door Sahara door removal

I finally want to remove the doors on my Jeep, the weather for the next week is going to be amazing.

My main concern is not with how to remove it, but with what to do about my power locks/windows. Do I need to disconnect the power supply for those before removal? Also, any good way to keep the dome light from constantly staying on once they are removed?

Once you disconnect the wiring from the doors, that takes care of the dome lights. There's a clip on the wiring harness you undo to disconnect it...Not entirely sure how it works tho' since I've never done it. Hubby gets that job, then if it gets broken it's on his head, not mine...

Ohh, there's a wiring harness. I knew that! Thanks for the help. Just need to go find a Torx #50 head driver and I'm set.

There's a harness between the door and the tub, where the door limiting strap is. The connector is there in the footwell on the limiting strap. Ours just drove away or I'd take a pic for you....

The red part slides over to unlock the connector then press the center of the bottom piece and pull the bottom from the top part.

Slide the red retainer to one side then depress the clip on the door side of the harness and pull down. When you are ready to reconnect, you will need to support the jeep end of the harness so it doesn't detach from the mount when you reseat the door end of the harness.

Slide the red tab so that it is mostly exposed and then squeeze just under the red tab and pull. You need to give it a good tug!!!

Slide the red tab over its like the safety on a gun. Once the safety is off pinch the clip and gently pull down. Take the screws out of the bottom of both hinges, open door COMPLETELY, if partially open you'l lift off your door and remove paint from it as well. Be careful in this step and be careful not to drop them. They come out quick be prepared. Driving doorless is amazing but be prepared to get hit w/ rocks and mud!

Just took my doors off again today. For some reason, this time the wiring harnesses simply did not want to disconnect. Tore my knuckles all to hell trying to get them out, which I eventually did. And 3 of the 4 doors had the body portion of the wiring harness come unseated from it clips that keep it mounted, so I have to fix those when I get back home. Any way to make them easier to remove next time?

Make sure you unhook the red tab next time while also pushing down on the black plate type thing. Keep in mind it's designed to be disconnected if it takes an absurd amount of force you probably did something wrong.

Not all JK's have them Einstein, but either way you still have to unclip the harness so that you don't need to pull a fuse or put a clip on the sensor like a TJ.

Still can't get the doors off!

is this supposed to be REALLY hard to do? I have tried a bunch of times but cannot for the life of me figure out exactly how to disconnect it. its a very awkward angle obviously and i don't want to pull too hard and break something. if you can see the picture, i am trying to press the 2 red buttons in the middle while pulling down at the same time...is that what i am supposed to be doing?

There in the middle of the connector is a clip you push down on and it will come up, the red piece also slides side to side, I think to lock it in place.

I did on mine and then sqeezed the middle "lever" and pulled while keeping it sqeezed, should pop right off, I don't know if the red clip latches or not, it seems to though, try it both sides.

Yep. I cant remember which way, I think I push the red tab to the right (or front of Jeep) with my thumb, but whichever side is sticking out slide it the opposite direction. I do mine without even looking you can feel the tab. Once you slide it over it will allow you to depress the black tab on the clip and pull downward gently. As mention above don't hesitate to try both sliding the tab the other direction if it doesn't work for ya.

^^ This. The read part is not a button, it's a slide lock. When it's locked one side sticks out a lot more than the other to make it obvious. Then press in the center of the bottom section and out it pops.
