2008 brake trouble

I have a 2008 4 door wrangler with less than 42,000 miles it has an auto trans.The right rear wheel got so hot smoke was comming of it.The first time i was puklling a trailer with 3 4 wheelers on it.After sitting for a few hours the wheel was fine and this did not happen for over amonth, Next time it happen i had weight in back of jeep.I took rear wheel off and looked at rotor and caliper.Caliper was not hanging up.Any one know what would cause this?

Could be your ESP cutting in early for some strange reason.

I would pull the caliper and clean up the pins and re-lube them. Also your pads should be just about worn out by now and if so then the piston is being pushed out so far as to maybe tilting the pad on the rotor. JK’s are known for wearing out the rear pads way to early. Are you doing a lot of braking and/or are you the type that rides the brakes?

I had that happen on my old CJ7 with one of the fronts. It ended up being a problem with the caliper itself. Chances are your rotor is now warped because of the heat.
