2008 gear selector swap

Hey all,
I just bought my first Jeep last week, and already to start modifying it.
My first intentions are to look into swapping the gear selector. I recently drove a 2012 and I would like to have the gear selector that was in it in my 2008. Is this possible? To swap them? or is it a change within the tranny, and not just a part swap of the gear selector and console?
I had to buy an automatic due to the use of this vehicle will mainly be in city commuting in Honolulu, Hawaii. Traffic is terrible here. That and my girl uses the jeep mainly and she cant drive stick. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I think he means he wants to put the 2012 auto gear stick into his 2008 auto?

I doubt they will be interchangeable given the 2008 is a Chrylser 42RLE 4 speed gearbox and the 2012 is a Mercedes W5A580 5 speed. ie, completely different boxes.
