2008 Sahara

Hi everyone..my first post to the forum

This month I sold my 1995 Rio Grand with 210000 miles. I bought it new and it served me well.
Purchased a 2008 Sahara with 40000 miles which I believe is in great shape..though I'm wondering?
After 1st day of owning first gear popped out, actually thought someone hit me from behind! A few more days, a few more times.
Did some research and found it is a common problem, dealer ordered new first gear and synchronizer. Also asked them to check brakes, seems to pull unpredictably. They said brakes are good, I disagree and will be taking back..have full coverage for 90 days, plus 2 years on power train as it is a certified vehicle.
My question..jeep seems to take moderate bumps hard. Is it normal for these to be loud..road joints etc...not sure if I'm just looking for problems, but was expecting a smoother ride with new suspension, compared to my '95. want to make sure I get everything fixed that I can find wrong within the 90 days...they had to know about the gear problem!
Thanks in advance for your help and comments.
Greg

Have an indepenant garage check your ball joints... I'm going through that now and here in Mass we have a safety inspection once a yr. Never go to dealership for that again.. passed it when it should have been rejected.

I've got an 08JK Sahara. While the ride is rather "jaunty" I wouldn't say any of this fits mine: ".jeep seems to take moderate bumps hard. Is it normal for these to be loud..road joints etc...not sure if I'm just looking for problems, but was expecting a smoother ride with new suspension,"

Mine rather rides like a rocking horse and handles like a lawn tractor.
Still, much improvement over prior Jeeps I've experienced.

Recently in town, at about 20 mph, I mistakenly ran over one of those little curb things in the middle of the street, covered with snow. It was about a 4" curb...and THAT was a "hard bump". Nothing seemed damaged though.

IMHO your Sahara should have a very pleasant yet 'firm' ride that doesn't alarm you. I have an auto and can't comment of the jumping out of gear event.

Ball joints

Thanks...sorta of feels like ball joints, though I wouldn't have expected after 40,000. How much is your local guy charging for inspection? I have a great mechanic and am thinking of having him do a complete inspection. I wonder if independent inspection will give me ammunition to have repairs done under warranty, legally?

Do it. No downside at all, especially w/a used Jeep.

And whether or not you gain any ammunition vis a vis warranty work will be up to the dealer and their flexibility (or lack thereof). I'd get checked anyway, if only so you know what's what w/the Jeep.

Just to follow up..
Had an independent inspection by OK 4 Wheel Drive in Stewartsville NJ (great if your in the area), and my Jeep is in excellent condition. Also the dealer performed 21-001-10 REV. A to fix my tranny problem. I'm now a happy camper and love my Jeep!
Oh yeah, installed hitch which I purchased from vendor on this site for our trailer.

Zibo is one good looking Greyhound. Never really gave much thought to a greyhound, been looking at various rescues, been wanting to get a dog from a rescue opposed to a breeder.

Could probably improve your ride quite a bit with new shocks and an AEV suspension upgrade.

Not 100% sure if you got the issue fixed yet, had the same exact issue with my 2008 Sahara with 60k. same senario... 1st gear pop out. took it in and it was the syncro between 1st and 2nd. Get it done under waranty!!! would have cost me $2700!!
