2008 soft Topon 2012

Anyone know for sure if a 2008 soft top will fit a 2012 Rubicon?

Yes, as long as you have all the 2008 hardware for the top - recycled info from numerous posts here already asked by numerous folks.

From what I've read, as long as you use the door surrounds from the same model year as the top you should be fine.

I'm pretty sure I answered your question already. You got the answer you were looking for by 2 separate people. If you were offended by the recycled comment then pardon me your majesty as it was not intended to offend...

I think the recycled comment was intended to let you know it wasn't first hand experience, not a slap on the wrist for not searching (at least not entirely).

Relax and go have fun with your top down. =)

DukeDallas,

One thing to watch for is that even if the seller thinks it is the entire top they may not have considered the bow brackets. When I bought a 2008 soft top last week the PO was helping me put it on and was surprised to find my jeep didn't have the brackets.

They are $30 each and need 4 $8 screws for a total cost of approx $90.

I had the exact same experience yesterday buying a '08 softop for my '12 JK & the seller had not taken the Bow Mount Brackets off his old Jeep before selling. Not only are they expensive to order but Mopar was showing a backorder yesterday so delivery unknown at this point.

Through the forums I was looking to make sure the tailgate mounts & door surrounds were included & in good shape but these brackets are also something to watch for when looking at used softtops.

There must be a number of used JK’s out there with Bow Mount Brackets that aren’t being used. If anyone has a couple & the screws that they want to sell I'd be interested.

I wonder is that is a regional thing, I ordered mine Thursday from the dealer and picked them up the next morning. I think Portland, OR is the distribution center for the Seattle area.

Probably this Wednesday, getting it totally unused for $500 still in factory wrapping my dealer wants $1500 for a new one... even if i have to order $100 of brackets still a no brainer. I am hoping that if I drop it off at the dealership they'll connect it all up for me sine I am buying 3k worth of aftermarket upgrades from them anyway.

Now only if my rig would arrive at the dealership I could start throwing on everything thats sitting at my desk at work without the wife knowing...

I'm confused when you say you are waiting for it to arrive at the dealership. Is it new and you haven't picked it up yet?

Have you thought about how you will get the hard top home if you have the dealer install the soft top?

The softop folds inside the hardtop doesnt it? When I test drove a few 12's that were dual tops the softtop was inside the cabin.

Negative. At least not in it's "installed" version. It's just there for transportation purposes. It still has to be removed and assembled. Once it is fully assembled with the header and all the bows attached, the hard top will no longer fit over it, even when folded down.

Here is what the owners manual says about that soft top you test drove stored inside:

DUAL TOP — IF EQUIPPED
If your vehicle is equipped with a Dual Top,
you must
remove one of the tops from the vehicle. If the soft top
is removed, the pivot brackets must also be removed
from the sport bar.
The soft top was installed at the
factory for shipping purposes only.
The soft top and the
hard top are to be used independently.
Removal is
mandatory to prevent any possible wear and tear on the
soft top. Your vehicle warranty will not cover damage
resulting from both tops remaining on the vehicle at the

same time for extended periods of time.

Thanks Tom! I did not know that, I'll probably still bring it there and just not fully connect it up if they want to connect it for me fine, I just cant bring it home because I am on a financial Jeep lockdown from the wife and it will not be possible for me to have this thing sitting in the garage as an unexplainable object LOL!

Even if they do connect it in any way, you will need to remove the hard top when you get home. Good luck hiding stuff. My wife uses my Debit card like a GPS to track me.

LOL Tom! I know small stuff is hiding in my office all over the place. I have a hoist in my desk drawer too. She did say "I dont want ANYTHING bought for that Jeep once it leaves the dealership!" so I fully understood that comment as "Buy anything you want for your new Jeep just make sure it all is in the Vehicle at the dealership"
