2008 Wrangler

I'm going to be purchasing an 08 wrangler as soon as the pricing comes out on them. I'm struggling with what model to go with. I planned on an 07 X with the 4.10s, sway bar dismount, and the rear lockers but they couldn't find one. I'm trying to build it up as close to the Rubicon without the price tag. This year the only gear ratio choice is 3.21 or 3.73s unless you go with the Rubicon. My question is how much of a difference are the 4.10 gears, rock rails, and the front and rear lockers. Do you think it's worth the extra $4000. I'm going to do basic off roading and don't plan on lifting it more than 2.5" if any.

if you only want to do some moderate offroading a non-rubicon JK will be good enough for you.
but if you have enough money buy better a rubicon...it has everything on it that you need for difficult terrain.

If you can afford it, buy the Rubicon. If for nothing else, resale value. Nicolas is right though, a basic X with the right tires will get you by, but think of the Rubicon as a total complete no fuss package that you would have to do very little to, if anything, in order to wheel where you want to wheel.*

*Disclaimer - No Jeep is completely no fuss. There will always be something that you will want to add to it.

hmm you'd think for 4K you could upgrade the gears, and buy some ARB lockers

but i'd talk to joe @ absolute off road b4 i made that decision

but the rubicon will give you everything you need for a REALLY capable off road machine, just add lift and tires

that´s why i would buy a 07 rubicon (with all these mods) instead of a new 08 stock non-rubicon...

also for the money, you get electronic sway bar disconnect, Dana 44 up front, 32in MT tires, hell just the tires your lookin 600 bucks plus mounting and balancing. Rock rails, 300 for a good set. 4.10.... you are at a crwl, you can lt out the clutch with no skinny pedal and be on your way

from what it sounds like, you don't really need a Rubicon but want to justify having one. I have one and for moderate offroad, i probably wouldn't need the parts that come on it but it you want to get Nuckin Futz, the Rubicon is the way to go

Thanks for the info. I would like to get a little crazy with it and plan on joining the local off road club but I have never really officially gone off roading other than getting my Tahoe stuck a couple of times. Jeeps are suppose to be able to go thru some crazy stuff as is so I really don't know how much of a difference the said parts would set it apart from the X model. I will be using this vehicle as a daily driver so I can't go crazy with mods.
