2008 Wrangler - No Gears Stuck on top of Mt Baw Baw

Hi Guys,

My friends 2008 wrangler is stuck on top of Mt Baw Baw and I am driving 2 hours to go and get him.

He has the 2008 model with an automatic transmission, and he has no gears at the moment.

From what he was telling me was that he was driving on the road where it starts to get slippery so it stopped the car and when to engage the 4wd.

However it did not engage and it just started reving like as if you had no clutch on a manual gearbox. He tried to change it back to 2wd mode but
we think it is still stuck in the void between 2wd and 4wd as it wont engage anywhere.

While I am driving up there can anyone here offer any advice as of how to get it to engage one way or another so we do not have to tow this back 150km's back to pakenham?

I will be checking this forum while on the way up and would appreciate any comments, feedback or advice from anyone on here.

Regards
Shaun

There is a plastic clip (actually two one on top on one at transfer case) on the cable between the 4wd engagement lever and the transfer case. It is a safety clip that gives way if the transfer case is being put into 4wd under a bind so not to damage the transfer case. More then likely the transfer case is in neutral at the present time.

Need to replace the clip they are real cheap. In the mean time crawl under the jeep at the transfer case and manually shift it back into 2 wd

It should be noted that you don't want to do this solo, with the engine running and auto transmission in gear...

Hi Guys,

Thank you rics1977 you are a champion!

We have just got back from going to get his jeep and i am pleased to say that your diagnosis was correct and that is exactly what had happened.

Luckily there was 2 of us and after about 15 minutes of looking for the location we had it fixed and back on the road.

Wish you the best

Thanks
Shaun
