2008 Wrangler Wont Start 3.8

Ok.. trying to help a buddy out.

12v at the battery and the starter
Hear a click (not the solenoid)
Dont lose dash lights when turning the radio or accessories while turning key

Its an automatic, so popping clutch isnt an option. Pushed the car and tried again, beat on starter... out of ideas. Kept running in and out of park assuming that the neutral switch maybe an issue.

Any thoughts?

It could still be the battery not having enough cranking power. Did you try to jump it?

I too have an 08 wrangler with intermittent starting probs. Turn the key and click. Go through the gears and put back in park and it starts. Have replaced battery, starter and neutral safety switch. Problem still exists. Dealer is baffled. Any suggestions appreciated.

I had this happen on my 98 Cobra a few times when sitting for winter. It actually had enough power for everything, lights, etc.. and would spin the starter gear, but just not kick it out to the flywheel.

So it could still be battery, try to jump it?

Still stock battery??? If it is you have done very well, my stock battery lasted only 2.5yrs and one of my battery cells died and I did not have enough cranking amps. New battery fixed my starting issues.

If the battery is still good then i would say neutral switch issue.

Usual suspect is the battery, I had the same type of thing happen with a Honda Accord, Just didn't have quite enough power to turn the motor over. Happened quickly and suddenly started fine once and wouldn't start at all after that. New Battery and problem was fixed.

Yeah like others have said 12v doesn't mean its enough... put your volt meter on the battery and watch the volts drop when you turn the key.. that will tell you for sure
