2008 x

New to the Forum and new to Jeeps. I traded my 2007 Yukon for a Wrangler. Didnt need the huge vehicle and wanted something fun to drive. Well I got it with 5600 miles and I am 3000 miles into owning it. The X is stock but I am going to slowly start adding. Any advice on some jeep upgrades to get myself started

Upgrade #1- search! Best way to find information is to look for yourself!

Upgrade #2- give us a clue what you're looking to get out of it- do you want a monster off-roader, a bit more pep for a daily driver, or just the "lifted look?"

Upgrade #3- welcome to the site! Mark W.

Just toss that bad gas mileage thought right out the window. In stock form they are bad. Modified they are worse.

If you like to wheel your jeep, the best and most important modification in my opinion is tires. If it's a street queen you can change the exhaust, buy a superchip, or get some different fender flares.

Just don't lower it, buy big rims, or deck it out in chrome sh*t

EDIT: also, welcome to WF

^ Not necessarily. Briana's 2-door has ~1" of lift, 33's, 3.73's, and a Superchips, and gets 17-22 MPG, depending on who's driving.
Superchips I recommend for EVERYONE- that's a must- Mark W.

just remember though duke, only in the world of Jeep do we consider high teens, low 20's "fantastic" gas mileage

Low 20's is great, I traded a GMC Yukon for my wrangler. Second I live in NH and would never lower a 4x4 or put a ton of chrome stuff on it. The only rims I would but are black ones or off road ones with bigger tires. I am looking into chipping it as we speak

Superchips, or nothing at all- nothing else provides the same gains and features- Mark W.

I think the chip is going to improve my gas mileage. I was getting 12-13MPG. I'm not going to off road with this tank of gas. so far, I'm I am on pace to get 16. I got 17 with stock 32's.

grinds when turning left at low speed.

Just bought a flame red 2008 X, made what i thought was a good deal. This is my first Jeep.
The vehicle had 55K miles. I took it in and had to replace upper and lower ball joints, front & rear shocks, transfer case fluid, rear differential fluid. Now I have this grinding noise. Starting to wonder if I made a good deal.

If they just changed the fluids, what else can be causing the noise?
Will this grinding cause more damage if I do nothing?

It could be brakes. Does it feel like any are dragging? I've rebuilt 2 calipers on my 08 jk(50k miles) its not expensive to rebuild them either. It grinds at low speeds and the noise disappears when going faster.

How large of tires are on it? If they are rubbing your frame or sway bar that could be a source of grinding.

How about driveshafts. If you look at where the driveshaft connects to the transfer case, is the rubber boot(not the accordian one in the middle) ripped at all? Usually it makes a clicking noise when shafts go bad but I guess anything is possible.

My guess is calipers or parking brake tho. Usually you can notice when the caliper is dragging or feel the heat
