Hello fellow wranglers 2010 - 2011 wrangler owners, did you check the underbody of your jeep when you received delivery?! Did you ask for your build sheet? I just purchased and received my 2011 wrangler. I specifically remember that on both the U.S and Canada Jeep site, stating that standard equipment are 3 skid plates on ALL Trims. Since I only remember checking the 2010 and 2011 jeep site, I can not speak for jeep models prior to 2010 equipped with all 3 skid plates.
After I got my jeep I inspected it and low and behold the tranny/oil pan skid plate was missing. Called chrysler - ohio plant, asked for my build sheet just to make sure. Verified all 3 skid plates should be included. Went to the dealer, hoisted my car, verified missing skid-plate, called Chrysler and told them about missing skid plate - still waiting on when the skid plate is ordered; however, while at the dealer, the shop manager/mechanic looked at all of the wranglers on the lot and ALL were missing the tranny/oil pan skid plate! Hmm.. At about 300.00?, for the price of that skid plate, times how many thousands of wranglers missing the plate?
hmm, that is a huge saving for chrysler - remember, skid plates are sourced out - purchased so the less skid plates purchased the greater the profit for Chrysler - this can be considered "theft", rip-off - remember, you are paying for this part, and notwithstanding hard core rock climbers of aftermarket skids claiming to be tougher than OEM skid plates, unless you are rock climbing the OEM skids do a great job at protecting you parts for your off-road trip; hence why they are included.
So let me know how many of you are missing your skid plates - if this is something Chrysler is doing on purpose to save money then it must be addressed because it is a rip off - dishonest and corrupt. Still waiting to hear form the dealer - though I am sure I'll get my skid plate, question is, why did all the other wranglers not have it? By the way, I have run into people here in Canada who have bought jeeps yet know nothing about them - gearing, suspension, LSD, Lockers, and so on, buy jeeps but rarely ever take them "off-roading" the way the were intended, let alone checking to see where and which Skid plates are located underneath the vehicle, maybe chrysler knows this - that some jeep owners buy jeep due to marketing but are not tech savvy about the vehicle and why it is so capable hence figuring it is unlikely the average jeep owner ever inspects their vehicle underneath or at least soon enough to do something about it, who would think that the company would forget a piece of hardware like that.
Replies please.
