Here is a better pic of the underneath of what I have. This matches all of the ones on the lot. The black oil pan is to the left of what's pictured. So for those of you with the skid plate - do you still have this black case underneath it?

Mine is not there. Just called dealer and they are checking with a service adviser. They said they have not heard of the problem.

Mine is missing. I have the other two...
Guess I will have to make a phone call or two. Thanks for the heads-up.

I have a 10 Sahara Auto. Just checked and mine definitely has the trans skid plate. Jeep is 8 months old.

Thanks guys for the heads up- my Jeep was supposed to ship from the factory today. I'm not going to take delivery unless it is complete. If this is all true, I wonder what potential legal action Chrysler could face from states?

Mines setting the shop with 32 miles on her,and she does not have that heart shaped skid plate.just that cross bar under it. I don't think Chrysler will give you a different plate,as if you read the fine print they can change specs and about anything the want at any time. One guy said they left it off so the trany would run cooler. I don't care as if I see big rocki will drive around not over. No brainer!

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Some people (from threads I have read online) seem to think that the skid plate causes excessive heat problems with the transmission. The way I see it, if the window sticker has it listed, I should be the proud owner of it. I could then decide for myself what to do with it.
But idfk....

I have also checked this stock skids out, they are more than decent and adequate to serve a function. Hamered away at mine to see how tuff it is.

quoted below off the 2011 jeep website: url below quote.

"Skid-plates protect the underside of your vehicle from off-road rocks and on-road debris. Front suspension and drivetrain plates are constructed of 3-mm thick stamped steel, and include: an automatic transmission skid plate that protects the transmission oil pan, a transfer case skid plate and a fuel tank skid plate to enhance the performance of the fuel tank brush guard".

That is so true. I found this out when I was doing a #2 trail at the Superlift park and I'm 2 miles into a trail with no exits and almost impossible to turn around when a few nice sized rocks/obstacles came up. I never realized just how committed you have to be to run some of these trails. This is when any protected is better than nothing.

I stopped by the dealer for another reason today and asked about the missing skid plate. We pulled out the build sheet and on our 2011 Sahara Unlimited the transmission skid plate isnt a standard option but it was listed in the add on section on the right side of the build sheet below the towing package and upgraded rear axle. The dealer appologized and ordered one in .

I noticed this a few months ago, when I was looking under JK's on a dealer's lot. There was a 2010 and a 2011 model sitting right next to each other - both brand new.

The 2010 had a factory "skid plate" and the 2011 had a factory "skid bar" (my words, not the factory's words)

I would guess that this was a change from the 2010 to the 2011 models, but I am not sure. They obviously did not change the website.

I will check my 2011 paper Wrangler catalog tonight when I get home, but I think the 2011 Wrangler catalog just shows the "bar"

Newbie to the forum but not to Jeeps. Just bought a 2010 Unlimited Sport yesterday. I saw this thread and jetted out to see if mine was missing the auto trans skid plate and it is! I will be going by the dealer in the AM. Just sucks that the quality control sucks that bad to miss so many.

With that being said, I have really missed owning a Jeep. This is my 6th wrangler and I LOVE it. Want the Rubi, but since I care for my mom, I do not get out on the trail that much and could not justify the extra 4 grand.

Anyway, glad I got to this forum and the info.

Thanks

It sounds like more than just quality control. These parts are in an inventory system. If they aren't ending up on a Jeep then how are they being accounted for? When you make a product and end up with leftover parts like bolts and some big metal things, over and over again you might notice. Hmmm sounds like a recall....

Went to dealer today and talked with my sales lady that sold me the Jeep. She checked other Jeeps on the lot and they looked the same as mine and said it's normal. So I flipped the idiot bit on her immediately.

Went to the parts guy and showed him the sticker that it was supposed to have one and he took me seriously and dug for facts. He printed off the build report for me and it showed that it should have one. When he pulled up my VIN number, the system "deleted" the skid plate from his online system. He said, that's odd and thought there was something wrong the with system. So he called "someone" and after they talked, they agreed it was supposed to have one. He gave me the part number and said he can't just order one and give it away and said I need open a case with the Chrysler customer service. I did, and a new case was created and I am supposed to get a call with 24 hours.

Looks like service after the sale is non-existent in my neck of the woods so I'll work through the channels as the parts guy suggested.

Looked under the JK. No trans skid plate. Looked at my order build sheet. Trans skid included. Looked at my window sticker that I have saved. Trans skid plate is listed. Called service at dealer. Man said talk to my salesman. Contacted salesman and he said I would have to bring jeep in to confirm that no trans skid plate is installed. If it is confirmed that it is missing they will contact Chrysler about reason. Thanks for the heads up. The trans pan looks pretty open to damage whether a boulder on the trail or discarded human head on the interstate. I love this place!

Hello Jeepers!!!
When I mentioned this to the sales person, I was asked to bring my rig in for confirmation. Confirmation Confirmed after my wrangler was hoisted. Service contacted Chrysler, told Chrysler about trans skid on build sheet and listed as included after checking spec build sheet from Chrysler and my VIN. I went back to Dealer today to check up on situation. Spoke to Salesperson who sold me my car, they took me to service to find out status. Status: trans skid on order. Service Manager uttered B.S and said " Chrysler is changing their production because the will make trans skid a option because it is really not important" I guess Service Manager didn't consider that it is best to say " I simply do not know why it was not included", and gain my trust rather than make up excuses; Nonetheless, Chrysler and the Service Department agreed Skid Plate is included. So you should all get yours as well! Personally, It could not be more blatantly obvious what is going on. Here is something to consider, Coffee shops, Donut stores, any franchise - all have to account for even a single paper cup! If a coffee shop has quality control, than it is hard to believe a car company does not. Nothing seen nothing missed until it is missed and than it simply became a "honest error" of "Opps, we missed it". Get Your Skids

Look at the top of this post or go to page one, there are a few pics but one in specific is a pic. of a hand holding a wrench and you see a heart shape piece of metal - transmission skid plate. Scroll up or go to page one - pictures there.

I have read many posts on this forum from Pat@ Fields Jeep but he has not chimed in on this one. Does anyone know him well enough to ask his opinion on this matter?

I was wondering the same thing. There are members of this forum who work for Chrysler either directly or indirectly, and they rarely weigh in on topics such as overheating, leaky tops, missing parts, etc....

looks like I am spending my day off on this problem.

I forwarded this thread to my Chrysler rep. Asked him to read it and let me know what happened.

I don't chime in all of the time because getting the right answer sometimes takes too long. We had a bunch of Ram 2500s come in missing skid plates and we ordered them and put them on here. If the skid plates are on your build sheet then go to your dealer, have it confirmed and ordered. Chrysler warranty will pay the dealership to install it.

I have found that most people will call Chrysler direct and ask, open a case and get mostly the right info pretty quick, thus answering most of these type of questions.

Like I said, you don't need to call Chrysler to get your skid plate, go to your dealer with the build sheet, confirm it's missing and have it ordered.

If I get an answer I will post it. and J33pz if you have a question or concern and your dealer isn't helping you just ask and I will try to get you the right info or at least point you in the right direction.
