The argument here, from what I can tell, is not whether or not the 2011 Wrangler is "Trail Rated" or not. The argument is whether or not some of us were delivered a vehicle that is missing a part that we paid for.
Another argument that I think came out of this thread, is whether or not Chrysler has made a change to their vehicles that nobody seems to be aware of; including dealerships (Skid "Plate vs. Skid "Bar").

Has anybody installed this Skid Row Brand, transmission skid plate on their Wrangler?

Engine/Transmission Skid Plate - for Jeep JK Wrangler - Skid Row Offroad

If so, any thoughts on this unit? Photos?

I don't need or want that tinny skid plate anyway. If you are driving over rocks big enough to damage the auto transmission you will be creating havic with many other parts like oil pan, tie rods, axle pumpkins, drive shafts, and lord only knows else. Out here in the oil fields we are smart enough to not drive over such Debri unless we are in a D6 CAT which comes with a one inch thick solid steel BELLY PAN. Not with 4X4 pickups or jeep. Oil is over the $100 dollar mark this week and we are loving every Minute of it. Praise the LORD!!!

Definition of "skid": the act of sliding or slipping over a surface.

"Skid bar" is an oxymoron. That bar looks like it's begging to catch on something IMO.

Edit: If the bar were oriented the other way (with the line of vehicle travel) I guess it could be called a skid bar. But not a cross member.

Well, I went to my dealer and they had no clue... their guess was that jeep changed from a skid plate to a skid bar , but they did say the part number for the 2010 and 2011 auto trans skid was the same... it took them an hour to verify all that and then the service guy hinted that they may charge me for looking into this, but they didn't ... not sure what to do now

ok wait a sec, I was under the impression that manual jeeps had 2 skids, and auto jeeps had 3 skids,

so under my 2011 manual rubicon I have two skids, and when I asked the dealer, its like a week old, they told me about that, 2 skids for manual and 3 skids for auto..

so why does your 2010 manual have 3 skids?
I thought all was fine until I read that.

You have all three on a manual transmission? I thought the transmission skid was for auto transmissions only.

Maybe double check--if you've really got all three, it'd be cool if you could post a pic so we can see what that looks like.

In any event, of course the dealer would have helped! You're still under warranty.

He may indeed be a jerk, but he's right--dealerships aren't governed by internet forums.

However, dealerships are governed by the terms of their sales contract with you as well as the vehicle warranty.

The point of your call wasn't that the dealership should do what the forum says, but, rather, that the forum has identified something that your contract requires that the dealership (and Chrysler) may have failed to do. It's different.

I took more to be like, because I was able to arm myself with some valuable information, and present my concerns to them in an informed manner, it sort of freaked them out.

jerk yes,
I am still trying to figure out if I was shit steered by my dealer,
see they told me 2011 rubicon standard has two skid plates, and
mine has 2 skid plates.
automatic, then it has three skid plates.
is this truth, or did they tell me this to get me of their back.

If I hear anything different that dealership and me we gonna have us a little problem now.

oh and thank god for these internet forums, where jeep owners can get together and share their ideas, plans, thoughts, concerns.

I believe that this sort of change, is arming consumers better, and perhaps the old mans club of the car dealership, will be forced to get on board with a little welcome to the 2011's customer service, and less money grubbing.

thanks to people who have some experience sharing it with newbs like me, who could be so easily taken advantage of by these sharks.

also cheers to companys like Northridge, and Tom Woods, who recognize that now we have a voice, a very public voice, and listen to that voice, and supply us the things we need or want for out jeeps at fair prices, with fast shipping, thats called customer service, and listening the the people.

and I am saying I think that dam stealership, could stand to learn a thing or two,
maybe if I was paying cash up front I would have been treated better.
anyway..
thank you fourms for helping to not let the little guy get $%&* ed by these sharks.

Are you sure that is the correct part number? I wonder if that is the part number for the 2011 "skid bar" or 2010 skid plate.

I did find this transmission skid plate listed for 2010 Wranglers. Part #52126079AC listed here for $51.50:

#Jeep Wrangler Parts - The Official Jeep Parts eStore offered by Chrysler

You have to enter 2010 Wrangler, plus part #52126079AC, then click on the graphic illustration. #1 on the illustration. Looks like the 2010 style "plate" not the "bar"

I tried to do a part search on this at various mopar/jeep part sites for a 2011 but no luck... if you google that part number though, one hit comes up from a place in FL listing it as a skid plate... no pic though.

Does anyone on here work for a dealer in the service dept that could look that part # up and see if there's a pic description of what it looks like and if it's different than the heartshaped looking auto skid from the previous years?

My dealer took two days to research and just called me back. Said she looked at 4 automatic 2011 Rubicons on the lot and none had the skid plate but had a "skid Bar". She went to parts department and they told her there is no part # for a 2011 Trans Skid Plate. Just the Skid Bar. In addition she verified that there is no way to mount a skid plate to the existing skid bar. She said Chrysler must have made the change for 2011 and not changed the terminology on the options sheet and definitely did not educate the dealers about it.

Unless someone here actually gets a skid plate from Chrysler installed on their 2011 then I am considering her information to be correct.

I took some pictures of my 2011 JKU. There is no skid plate, but there is what looks to be a new skid "bar"! Booyah! In your face 2010 and previous years owners!
If snax is correct then you still have a chance to throw away your old, useless automatic transmission skid "plate" and replace it with the new and improved skid "bar". I think I might just order a second skid "bar" in case one of you get jealous and decides to steal mine.
Thanks Chrysler, for not only making positive changes to the Jeep year after year, but for also looking out for the integrity of MY Jeep's automatic transmission components. Oh, and thank you for surprising everyone with this sweet enhancement. I am kind of glad I didnt know about this until AFTER I bought my 2011 JKU. Knowing this before-hand would have surely spoiled the surprise.
After finalizing this post, I am going to search the internet, looking for bars to replace my transfer case and fuel tank skid plates. I want to be one-up on the 2012 models before they roll off the line!!!

*Nice Picture of the now famous "Skid Bar"*

*Another nice angle of the sweet and often coveted "Skid Bar"!*

*My "soon to be replaced by bars" skid plates currently installed"

I went back and looked at my 2011 Jeep wrangler sales brochure. Page 8 specifically states SKID PLATES - "stamped skid plates for fuel tank, transfer case, and automatic transmission oil pans, if equipped, help protect Wrangler's guts when battling boulders."

So if a dealership is giving you a hard time, I would grab their sales brochures point to page 8 and ask.... where does it say bar? Then proceed to cross out every one with a sharpie and replace plate with the word bar!
