2010 JKU Rubicon, Underbody Rattle from Black Plastic Ribbed Box

Hey guys, I have a 2010 JKU Rubicon with a BAD rattle that appears to be coming from a black plastic ribbed box with a white cap on the backside, that is mounted to the undercarriage slightly offset to the driver's side about halfway between the transfer case and the rear axle. If you tap it with your knuckle, it sounds like one of those rattle instruments from a middle school music class.

FYI, the Jeep is operating fine, the rattle does not seem to be linked to any performance issues or breakage.

Do any of you know what that box is or have you experienced the same thing? Thanks! Matt

Sounds like the evaporator canister. Looks like this:

And here's a video of how to change one:

It appears they sell them at autozone:

Yes, that is exactly what it is! Thanks for your help! Looks to be a simple swap, and the part is not very expensive so that is a relief.

I see you are located in NC, where about? I am in Charlotte.

Live in Durham, work in Raleigh.

We occasionally haul the kids out to Great Wolf Lodge though, so we usually see Charlotte a few times a year.

Mike, you're from Durham, awesome! That's my hometown, love ODD.

I hear Great Wolf Lodge is nice, haven't been there yet but the kids keep asking to go so maybe we will head up there and try it out.

Thanks again for the help on the evaporator. Already ordered the part. --Matt--

Hi Riccochet! Nice to hear from a Charlotte neighbor. Where do you live in Charlotte? I'm on the south side, near where Providence Rd hits 485.

Actually in Concord. But I'm down your way often hitting up CR-PC.

If you ever come across any nice trails down there hook a brotha up! There are some decent unfinished developments I motor through up my way every now and then.

No can do Friday. Have to work. Plus it's going to be a muddy mess. If you do go make sure you take plenty of recovery gear or go with someone. I've gotten stuck or slid off the easy trails (Wolf Den and Slab Pile) when it was muddy. Had to be yanked off some rocks I'd been over 100 times before. No traction when that clay soil gets wet.

Have fun, be safe, keep her shiny side up!
