Question 2010 Sport OR 07-08' Rubi?

I'm trying to decide which option would be better. Should I pick up a new 2010 Sport w Power package + Tow package with the new vehicle warranty OR buy a Rubi which is 2-3 years old for the same price?

I haven't ever done and real rock climbing or very serious off roading but I love the idea of having lockers, Dana 44's and the power options all in one rig. The Downside being I won't have much of a warranty, if any, and that's a big deal.

Any ideas? Thanks all

Z.

Not easy to find a used Rubicon, depending on your location. Same price as a new Sport w/ power? So $24-25k? Get the Rubicon.

If you are not going to be doing serious off roading just get the sport and build it to what you want. I got a 2010 sport for 22800 I plan on upgrading the wheels and adding some accesories that I want. The main parts of the jeep is the same no matter what package you get so save the $ and buy a new one with warranty.

I have an '08 JKU Rubi and I could probably sell it NOW, (without additions) for close to what I paid for it two years ago ($30K), but

If you don't want to seriously off-road and you're worried about the Warranty--

Get the 2010 Sport !!

A 2010 sport is a VERY capable off road Jeep stock. Don't be fooled by the lower price range. A warranty and the fact that it's brand new is worth it when your driving home in your fresh Jeep under warrany for years with no miles on it. Your going to pay more money for the used Rubi even though its the same price because your losing your warranty, mileage, tire and engine wear and you may not ever need the options the Rubi offers.

Unless your absolutely going to use the off road capabilities that the Rubi provides, your throwing your money away. You can go on trails and have a blast in your brand new Jeep Sport through mud, snow, rain, dirt..etc. If you use your Rubi's options for what their intended (and mind you without a warranty) then you'll likely be on trails were you could seriously damage your new/used Jeep.

Think about what your going to use your Jeep for seriously because once you've bought it, that's it. The sport and the rubi are awesome off road. Choose wisely my son...go now...and get a Jeep.

I would say go with the warranty option.

As others have said, you can always UPGRADE later if you find yourself needed the upgraded options.

Warranty is HUGE.

Oh and pretty much all damage to your jeep off roading isn't covered under a warranty so when using your Rubi to rock crawl and you get hung up tearing away at your axel and drive shaft, that's an out of pocket expense.

You can add 100k drive train warranty to used rubi ON TOP of current miles. (I just did a few months back and got an 08). Negotiate your best deal THEN make the dealership do the warranty for free/their cost or walk. Guarantee they do it.

I like my rubi. Never had one. Plus, "real" Jeep people notice and appreciate the rubi status. Not many around... At least not here.

I hear people say "ooh it's a rubicon" when they notice the jeep, etc. RECOGNIZE! :-)

Also, I don't do any rock climbing either, but it seems better even in standard trails with trenches, etc.

Do rubi.

Your better off buying new. Although your getting a lower model your also getting a lot of piece of mind.
First: New = Warranty
2nd : New = no half ass modification
3rd : New = you know it hasnt been abused, no missed oil changes and so on.

Talking

NEW is new. Go with a sport model. That is what I did. Now I am able to build it up the way I want it.

Buy the Rubi.
Once you start wheelin, and you DID mention that you wanted to try rock crawling - you're gonna be glad you have lockers and everything else the Rubi has to offer.

The Rubicon can still be built the way you want. You just get a BIG head start. Better suspension system, front and rear Dana 44 axles, front and rear electronic locking differentials, disconnecting sway bar, BFG Mud terrain tires.
If your gonna eventually go offroad, BUY THE RUBICON, AND DONT LOOK BACK!

I will have to agree with this. I tried getting a '10 Sport that was lifted by the dealer and had aftermarket wheels and bigger tires. They would not work with me on trading in my 06 lifted TJ. I found my used '07 Rubi with around 22,000 miles on it for less than the Sport. I did buy an extended warranty with it though. So now I have a Rubi and a warranty for less than a new Sport. Saving up for a lift now.

Rock Krawling/Stump Humping/Mountain Climbing = Rubi
Trail Riding/Medium Off-Roading = Sport

What % On-Road & Off-Road will you be doing? Is this going to be a Daily Driver? The Rubi has a stiffer suspension, so you may want to consider the quality of Ride Performance you're going to get.

Best of Luck on your choice, and please let us know what you decide!

Cheers!

psst...

the Rubi, rides as nice as my Cobra did.
handling is a whole nuther ball game - but I've driven mine clear across the country and had no issues at all with the ride

just get what ever makes you smile the biggest when you climb in and drive it around the block

just pick something already.

Thanks for all of the messages boys and girls!

Hmm after considering what I'll be doing with the Jeep most often (daily driver), the cost of a Rubi and the cost of an extended warranty, and my love of a new vehicle warranty - I think I'll be going with a 2010 sport with 3.73 gears (Do they make that much of a difference with bigger tires?!) and some awesome tires. For now. Some of you were right, if or when I decide that I need to get into rock climbing or serious off roading I can always build it up myself.

With a new 2010 Sport I know that it hasn't been abused or had half assed mods done to it. Thanks for all of the advice!

Unless you are paying cash, the low interest rates
on the new one saves a fair amount of money over
the higher interest rate you will pay on a used one.

Make sure you pay us all back with some tasty pics of your new ride!
