2010 Wrangler made with Galvanized Steel?

New to the forum - seriously think about getting a 2011 model.

Since I live in the salt belt, I'm wondering how well the wrangler stands up to salt -

Are they constructed with galvanized steel?
Is the factory undercoat sufficient, or do aftermarket treatments work better?
Any other rust issues to be concerned with?

Thanks

Every Wrangler since 1995 has had a galvanized steel body.

If I'm not mistaken, virtually every vehicle sold in the U.S. (if not the world) today has a galvanized body. I certainly haven't seen it even listed on a features sheet since 1998, so I'd have to think so. I do know that the JK is.

As for rust, if you're concerned, a bit of extra undercoating is never a bad idea. I run the el cheapo spray-can stuff, and I've never had a problem.

The other concern is rusted hardware. Anytime you get underneath to remove something, hit it with a shot of PB Blaster an hour before you start to help with that. Otherwise, rock and roll

Whereabouts are you, then? Mark W.

That's encouraging about the galvanized - I'd be interested to see it printed or published by Jeep.

I think the undercoating would be a good idea. I had a tacoma and was pretty unhappy with the way it rusted even after ziebart, so whatever I get I'd like to make sure it has good protection from the factory and then keep after it myself.

I'm in Columbus, OH, and I spend a bit of time in Cleveland, too.

Gotcha. Yeah, they salt the PISS out of the roads up here, even when there's no snow! Then, when it DOES snow in Febuary or March, we're boned. Sigh...

Don't pay the dealership $$$ to do an aftermarket undercoating. Just get under there with half a dozen cans of the Rustoleum undercoating spray, goggles, and a mask, and go to town. Mind you don't get any in any electrical connectors, on the brakes, etc. and you're golden- Mark W.

I live in OH as well. My '06 is showing no sigh of rust. I will mention that it is my daily driver and I am diligent about washing the salt off.

That's the best advice. Every snow, I wait until the salt has thinned out on the roads and take my vehicle to the no touch and pressure wash the bottom to get all the crap off. Use a fanning motion to keep from concentrating the water on any one spot for too long and you're good.
