2011 jeep wrangler unlimited sport leaking.

This is my first post on this forum and its sad to report about my 2 week old jk. Since the first rain after I brought Savannah home she was leaking water on the passenger side front. Water depositing into the floor and leaving the carpet soaked. Şo I took the jeep into service on Saturday for the leak, a key alarm issue, and to have a hitch installed. 3 hours later I received the jeep back. Service stating they have fixed the leak.

Monday started the rain fall for a week. When I went out to leave for work I noticed a steady stream of water coming in again same spot. Dropped the jeep off again. This time they had the jeep until Wednesday. When I got it back they swore they had found the leak and fixed it again.

It is now Saturday and they have the jeep once again. I dropped it off on Thursday, and I informed them that I don't want it back until its fixed. Or I want a new jeep that doesn't come with its own supply of water.

They told me that they were installing new weather stripping and that the passenger front door had been mis-aligned from factory, and they had to re-align the door.

I won't believe anything until I see results.

Not happy at all. I love my jeep but this is ridiculous.

Hmm sounds like what's going on with me. My door was so badly misaligned that it was visibly noticeable and pinching the seal at the a-pillar so that was the first thing I had them do. Just got it back yesterday from the second time there and it leaked just from a cup of water being poured on it!! I'll try to tweak it myself and if I can't get it to stop it's going back again.

Soft top one though. My other Jeeps hard top hasn't leaked a drop.

I have ranted on here as much as I could. The funny thing to me was that the ONLY thing that wouldve made me feel better is if they just fix the ####### leak. After numerous trips back and forth, leaving the brand new jeep with them overnight twice--- they never fixed it. Thanks Jeep!!!

Şo I spoke to the general manager today in sales and came to the conclusion that since this is my third time in service for the same thing and the jeep is only two weeks old, if the same problem happens again they are giving me a new jeep.

I've had my new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited since April 3 (the day before the $500 Mopar Bucks started!) and it has not rained in Florida where I live since then. I don't even know what rain on the roof sounds like yet. Anxious to get some rainy weather so I can check to see if it leaks.

Hey there!

I'm new here and came across this forum when searching the web for info on water leaks on jeeps. I thought I should just jump right in with my situation. Bought a 2010 Unlimited Rubicon back in August. Did alot of research and new what I wanted and LOVE my jeep! BUT, soon after I bought it and we had some rain, I noticed the leaking. There was leaking on the passenger side door down along the edge where the door closes, there was a leak where it dripped right onto the dash from the door on the passenger side and the driver's side...and the leaking between the rear window and gate. I bought the jeep in another town about 3 hours from where I live (we don't have a dealership locally). So, drove it out, they tested it, saw the leak and replaced seals that day. Drove it home...next rain, leaking again! I do not live in a dry climate whatsoever, so this really is frustrating. I live pacific northwest of Canada, where we get a ton of rain and snow. So, they wanted it back, but by this time we were in the midst of a very snowy winter and I ski every weekend and need the jeep to get up and down the hill with our equipment, so we made arrangements for the spring. Now the jeep sits at the dealership...they've had it for 2 almost 3 weeks already and still not fix. They ordered all new seals, replaced them...still leaks, tried silicone and apparently it looked terrible so they took it out. Now they are ordering other parts to try again and need it for at least another week or 2. I'm driving a courtesy vehicle that is not big enough to tote bikes around...this really sucks for the summer! I would love to know from them, if they fix it a 3rd time and it still leaks...then what?!

It's unfortunate to see so many posts here about leaking Jeeps. Do you think that it is the top? Or could it be the door frame? I am lucky to have a hard top that has never leaked, well, maybe 1 single drop when going through the blow dryer after a touchless car wash splashed it onto my windshield. I'm not getting a clear visual of what's really happening, but I wonder if the top of the door could be slightly tweaked and not putting enough pressure on the seals, the top not sealing on windshield frame, or the corner where it all comes together? I've seen this on a car after a neighbor locked their keys in it and tried to pry door and use a hanger to unlock door.

Same problem with mine

I had the same problem the day I picked up my JKU (hardtop). I took it in the following week and they replaced the door seal and it seems to have taken care of the problem. But other than washing the Jeep, we have not had any rain to deal with here in Austin.

Makes you wonder why they don't fire the monkey/robot putting the passenger door on. This seems to be the only door having the problem, at least all I've seen on this forum and others.

You almost had me fooled with that one, didn't sound right so I went over it a second time before commenting. Next time as a precaution... Buy a bunch of those little pill things that disolve when wet and turn into sponge animals. Put a few in each cupholder and maybe some under the front seats. When your top fails you again you will have a little zoo of sponge animals and just wring them out till needed for next rain.

I completely forgot that I have a couple of towels like that from Safari Straps in my glove compartment.

It is definitely frustrating to see the number of people who run into the issue with leaks. I realize it doesn't make you feel better if it is happening to you, but just know that it is possible to have a Jeep, hard and soft top, that does not leak.

I have an idea for people to diagnose where the leak is from and how to fix it themselves. I will start a new thread tomorrow after I take a long look around my hardtop tonight. I can't exactly test it since mine is good, but need to think it through before I talk out of my a$$.

I ordered my 2009 from the factory with hard and soft top and neither has ever leaked and each week run it thru the touchless car wash no problems.

Got new 11 JKU in Jan. After heavy rain, passenger floor soaking wet. Dealer replaced door seal, no help. Dealer then replaced seal where windshield folds. Bingo, no more problems, even in New England downpours. Svc Mgr told me they have had 3 more new ones with same problem.

I just ordered a 2012 sport unlimited. I will be a 1st time Jeep owner. Ive heard this same story too many times to mention. But my question is this...Why the hell cant they just fix the problem??? Whats seems to be the major issue? Diagnosing or fixing?? or both??

After reading here, if this happens to my Jeep, I think I will try to take care of the problem myself if possible.

Bingo !!!
Folks who are having problem and had stripping replaced in door area, and continue to have the problem, should take it to the dealership, and have them change the seal where the window folds. This may do the trick.

Received this mail today from the dealer where I bought my 2011 JK Sport last May...

(Dated 6/20/11)
"The following rapid response transmittal is open on your vehicle and needs to be addressed.

RRT 11-062 Water leak at passenger front door.

This is a quality control issue, not a safety concern, but you should get this taken care of as soon as possible.

Please contact us to make an appointment to have this RRT taken care of and have your vehicle indentification number available when you call so we can make sure parts are in stock for your vehicle..."

It's been bone-dry here for weeks, and the jeep has been in the garage during the few rains we've had, so I haven't noticed any problem.

Please help, I have had my jeep in numerous times for leaking at the passenger door, it is an 08 sahara, just feel it is unacceptable for $30k vehicle, dealer keeps saying we usually can fix it, and was confidant it was fixed this time, but no, is it the top, the door, the jeep, heard of the dealer buying back the car for a newer model, but who's to say that will not leak... completely frustrated, where do I go from here....

Thumbs down

I must be lucky for where I live (I think it rains a little everyday) the soft top does not leak. But my passenger door does not close unless I slam it harder and when I open it the seal around the corner that faces the windshield pops out by itself everytime I open the door. I took it in and the answer "its a Jeep, thats normal, we can find a new one on the lot that does that to show you" I dont even want to leave it for them to "investigate" for lack of trust! I'll survive with having to close the passenger door a little harder.
But yeah I've been is non stop rain all day/night and no leak

I kinda doubt that this will help you much, because I feel differently about dealer service depts than you do-a lotta years with diff' 4wds

I ordered/bought/drove off the dealers lot on oct 18, 2008 and it's never been back-

Of the many little inuendos, I had heard of the "leaking" problems prior to my purchase, so after taking the doors off-I traced the "INSIDE" of the upper hinges, with a felt-tip pen and then loosened the three 13mm bolts-moved the hinge (approx 1/16" INWARD-then retighened the bolts--this-in effect-compressed the UPPER gaskets-a little more !

That made all the doors a little harder to close-than when stock, but

Now, after almost 3 years, no leaks or air noises !!

Now, you probably don't think you should have to do that for a 30K vehicle thats NEW--I guess, it's just how long you wanna leaveit at a dealers service dept--

The first thing they ALWAYS do, is replace the upper front door gaskets-SOP-

Sometimes it works-usually it doesn't--

This is a 99% awesome vehicle, you just gotta treatit like a redheaded stepchild !!

Keepyerpowderdry

Exactly. My 2011 hardtop Unlimited does not leak, so it is a door alignment issue, not a design issue evidently.

My 2010 JK Sport had every door and window seal changed, they even went as far as putting bondo instead of the plugs near the windshield and under the grills near the front hood. Nothing helped. Before they were through, the carpeting, infinity system, and radio were replaced only to have Chrysler admit that they could NOT fix it and that they would have to buy it back from me. Now the brand new 2011 leaks just as much or more. I can give you the lawyers info - they say that they love Chrysler because they alone keep them in business. Sad but True! (But my next vehicle will probably still be a Wrangler!)

Unhappy Also have right side water leak problem

My 2011 Wrangler 2-door "Call of Duty" Rubicon (with the "Freedom Top" hard top) has the same water leak problem. It handles car washes and dealership testing with no problem but every time we get a heavy rain the passenger side floor and carpet is soaked. I've had the Jeep back to the dealer three times. Each time I was told they were "confident the leak has been fixed." It still leaks as badly as ever. I got a call from the dealer today telling me they had received yet another "repair kit" to solve the problem and suggesting I bring the Jeep in - again. I told them I was tired of being a guinea pig for testing their repair procedures and told them to call me again after they tested the new "repair" on someone else's vehicle and found it to work. I guess I'll see what happens next but I am very frustrated with Chrysler's inability to fix their own product. I've read some posts claiming this is just a "Jeep thing" but I don't buy that nonsense. It is a very expensive vehicle. It should not leak when it rains. That's why it has a top! If it does leak, Chrysler shoud fix it, "Jeep thing" or not.

If your seal isn't messed up I would try, or have the dealer try what Jimbox mentioned above.
