2011 or 2012

I recently had an 08 Wrangler. Now I am wanting to purchase a new one. I can get some great deals on the left overs that are on the dealers lot. They are offering from $3000 to $3500 off of MSRP with some low percentage finacing. Looking at a stripped model with a/c and auto. I know that the 2012 are right around the corner but the pricing will be at or above invoice. Not sure what kind of finacing will be involved. Trying to decide if the new engine and transmission are worth the extra money. Plus, I don't know what kind of finacing they will have. Could save a bunch of money on the 2011. HP vs. Money. Hard to decide.

OK, Do you want a Jeep NOW, or are you willing to wait for more power and better mpg?
There's no guarantee the 2012 is going to be a huge leap forward, but the numbers are looking good. Understand that while the new engine and trans are already in use in other models, it does not guarantee that there won't be issues with them in the Wrangler. But, you could also have problems with a 2011.
Assuming it's still offered, you can use the Tread Lightly discount (do a search) on your 2012, to guarantee 1% under invoice. This will also work on the 2011.
We can't tell you what to do, that's your decision. If it was me, I'd hold out for the 2012.

You're not comapring apples to apples. Getting $3000 to $3500 off MSRP means nothing. Next you state 2012 pricing will be at or above invoice. Never consider MSRP. Ever. Start with invoice pricing. What you get off MSRP is totally meaningless. Join treadlightly.org and get hassle free pricing that is 1% below invoice.

If I wanted to purchase a new Wrangler right now, I would definitely wait for the 2012.

There will be no amazing deals on 2011's.

If I were in the market for a Wrangler today, I'd wait until 2012s hit lots, test drive both, and then see how the money v HP/MPG thing really stacks up. My expectation will be that the 2012s will be the better choice.

Assuming 2012s show no near immediate signs of problems (which I expect will be the case), then there's not going to be any reason to go with a 2011 other than money saved. And, at a certain point, that money would be sufficient to warrant going with a 2011.

I think Daggo's right though. For most of the 2011s, dealers will be able to sell them for $2k or maybe $3k less than a similar 2012. That'll be enough to move the remaining stock. But that wouldn't be enough for me to go 2011. But $8k? Now we're talking, though I don't expect you'll see those kinds of discounts.
