My view is simply, "fix" the radio so it does everything the literature claims (voice control of nav, SIRIUS Travel and SIRIUS Traffic). If you can't fix it, replace it with a unit that will do what the literature claims.

Pretty simple in my view.

The service writer had recently taken a course in the various radios and has had other customers complain, but I think I am the first to demand that they put it in as a warranty claim. Should be an interesting discussion.

And yes, I DO enjoy tilting at windmills!
I agree. This is exactly the approach I am going to take, especially since I used the same literature when researching my vehicle before I purchased it.

Bluetooth/Uconnect Phone compatibility tests (v03/11)

(according to this my phone is compatible and SHOULD allow audio streaming: IT DOESN'T)

And this is directly off the Jeep website, but NOBODY THERE seems to know anything about when and how this is going to happen.

Apple products and iPhone compatibility tests

I was unaware that the 430N did the voice nav control (but man I wish it did). I thought it was the 730N that did that.... and I cannot find anything on my sticker that says it should also include the SIRIUS traffic stuff.

My dealer REALLY wants to help me and if I can provide him with something on paper that says these things exactly, he might put in a warranty claim for me as well. I am the first person to complain, but we are a very small town so he probably has not sold too many of these units.

Can you point me in the right direction please?

From the Jeep website: http://www.jeep.com/en/pdf/2011_wrangler.pdf

If you look at the specs page, it says the 430N should do all those things. And if you look at page 8, it shows a picture of the 430N and says very clearly that you will have Sirius Traffic and voice control of navigation.

It's basically false advertising. I am sure there are enough disclaimers buried in there to get them off the hook, but it's pretty slimy of them to show the 430N on the same page with words saying it will do things it will not. You just have to love the PR/advertising folks. Maybe I'd feel better if it were printed in Italian since then I could just pass it off as a translation problem?

Oh HA thanks!!! I just happen to have my own Jeep brochure sitting here right beside me, that we picked up at the dealership the same day we bought the JKU.

Mine CLEARLY states:

Media Center 430N (RHB)

Find your way to great music and fun places. The AM/FM/CD/DVD/Navigation radio with MP3/WMA support, 30GB digital hard drive, 6.5 inch touch screen, audio input jack, iPod control, Voice command, GPS Navigation, SIRIUS Travel Link, SIRIUS Sattelite radio and voice directed street navigation.

I would love to take this back to the dealer and ask for an update, or a warranty replacement if there is not an update available.

Mine definitely does not have:

iPod control
SIRIUS Travel Link
Voice directed street navigation

The problem is, there is a disclaimer on the back cover of the brochure stating that

"since the time of printing, some of the information some of the information in this catalogue may have been updated.... blah blah SIRIUS, blah blah NUVI, blah blah Bluetooth...."

So it may not hold much water, but I know my Dealer will not be happy that he was not made aware of this stuff because he really pressed this unit as an awesome feature.

I was told by the Jeep dealership that I would get mailed a DVD every 2 years or so to update the GPS system and it would cost me about $200.
The screen resolution could be higher considering how much I paid for the system.
Also, everything (in the system) works fine with my iPhone 4 except the Bluetooth streaming. So I don't use it: a firmware update could fix that.

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Captivate running the stock 2.1 update1 version SW.

But I did notice that mine is an i896, not an i897 which IS listed. Mine is not. I now have no idea if it should work or not, as this list was put out after my phone was made.

Samsung Galaxy S/SGH-I896 - XDA-Developers
Samsung Galaxy S/SGH-I897 - XDA-Developers

They both use Android 2.1 (eclair)

My issues are that the bluetooth music streaming connects, but all the songs are skipping and playing at double time.

Everytime I start my Jeep I have to go into my bluetooth options on the phone and disable media or the media player kicks on and drains my battery. It will also try to override any UBS media I have plugged in (iPod) which is a whole 'nother issue.

I don't mind not being able to play the phone media on the bluetooth, but I would like to be able to either use it with the iPod or iPad because of the USB problems. But none of my 3 iGadgets will connect.

For now I use the HDD or radio, but it saddens me that I cannot use any of the other features it is supposed to have and I am now afraid to update my phone software to Froyo and lose all phone connectivity (it works great for hands free).

Looks like an update is out

There is an update, but it looks like it will only go to 930 Grand Cherokee owners:

This disc will only work on a few vehicles that were shipped with a newer software version that was to replace and earlier version. I don't know the exact vehicles that these are on but the disc will not work on all vehicles. Chrysler Corp will supply an archive to the Dealer Service Depts and then the customers will come in and have the modules reflashed.

Where did you get that info from? Not questioning if it's right or wrong, just a different answer than we were given. Now I'm wondering what the deal is. Let us know.

Let me verify what I was told and then I will get back with you about this. All I know is what I was recently told about this. The Module P/N 05064635AG is the module that is having the problem in these vehicles. As I understand it, the P/N 05064635AH is the module that the disc update is supposed be for. (as I was told).

It is a shame that the update only appears to address the Sirius Travel Link issue, but those of us with the blue tooth issues are still going to have problems.

Thanks, I hate that the info never seems to be the same. Not sure if you work for a dealership or Chrysler, but it would be nice if salespeople got the same info as service/parts in dealerconnect in our email. That way we wouldn't have to try to always find it.

RHB, HFM, 430N, partridge in a pear tree...Holly molly there is enough codes flying around to make your head spin and pop off.

Its been all of 2 days since my first Wrangler purchase, and I seek out the guidance from the forums. After doing some searching I landed on this post.

Overview:

2011 Sahara w/ 430N RHB

Cell phone is a DroidX running Rev. 2.2.1

Cell phone pairs fine....

Then....

Uconnect screen shows no phone...then 10 seconds later it shows a phone is available...then rinse and repeat....

On my DroidX, when the connection goes down the tubes I notice the signal strength meter gets a big "do not" symbol over it...as if something is interfering with the phone.

So I tried the obvious stuff...

1. Clear out the Uconnect and repair...did this about 10 times so far...same result...it pairs just fine.

2. I tried rebooting the cell phone, clearing out any previous Bluetooth connections, then going back to step 1.

3. Turned off Wi-Fi on the cell phone, then went to the Jeep and tried step 1 again.

4. Tried long pressing the Uconnect link on my phone once connected to get to the settings for that Bluetooth connection on my phone...Tinkered around...no luck....Deleted Bluetooth connection pairing from my phone...Repeated step 1 again.

Not only does the phone dialing not work, neither does any phonebook downloading or streaming audio from the phone....

It is as if the Bluetooth connects but doesn't work worth a pot to p...in...well you get the point.

So I converted all my music on the phone to MP3, grabbed my USB drive, copied it to that, then onto the Hard Drive of the radio in the Jeep. At least that worked.

I am not sure what direction to go in now.

From what I gather from this post, after I read it multiple times...some people are having problems with bits and pieces of functionality, but in my case though the bluetooth pairs..it doesn't do jack other then say No Phone Available....

And yes for anyone wondering, I did type in the pin number via the phone and it went flawless...well sort of...if it was flawless I wouldn't be making this response.

What are your thoughts on doing a Mygig Software Update? Heck I am even willing to downgrade my DroidX "Rev. android 2.2.1" software...and if I get frustrated enough go try another phone.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

KSU: this is why I am not going to update my Droid 2.1 stock to 2.2.1 If I were you and you are comfortable doing that it might not hurt to try to roll it back before getting a new phone.

Did you check the compatibility list I had posted above? My particular Droid has a '3 star' compatibility rating..

https://www.jeep.com/hostb/crossbran...raft_REV_C.pdf

I am being really patient with this and have even learned to live with using my HDD for music, but I think I might have to wipe all my music files off my Phone because it keeps trying to override and turns on the media player and drains my phone battery.

On another note, does your USB plug work in your armrest? Mine has been about 50/50... so I am not using it right now (well, there is the little problem with the iPod belonging to my kid LOL but I am not about to run out and buy something if it does not work 100% of the time).

Hello Pat (and others that are reading this),
Ok, so yes the disc that you will be getting for the Uconnect BT (not the one for sirius) will be for the vehicles with the 05064635AH modules. This was only about 2,000 vehicles and I think that the Date of Manufacturing would be late last year. For those with the 05064635AG modules (which will be about 99% of those here) they will need to wait for Chrysler to put the Archive up on Dealer Connect and the modules will be reflashed in Service Dept.
the problem is not with the Uconnect system but how the phone is sending information to the Uconnect system. Kind of like if you had a person talking to you in English and drifting off to a foreign language occasionally. you would be a bit confused and try to put it together but might not get it right.
I have also found a temporary fix (or a band aid if you will) for some of the phones that are dropping the BT (Bluetooth) connection. I know that this is not what anyone want to hear but till the archive is available at Service you can try the following:
1) Delete the pairing of the phone using the Uconnect buttons on the radio, (set up, device pairing, delete phone)
2) go to your settings menu in your phone and remove the Uconnect from your trusted device list
3) Cycle the ign key ( key off, open & close the drivers door, turn key back on)
4)start a new pairing of the phone, when the phone is paired up there is a pop up asking for permission to access the phone book, press and then press "decline" or do not accept. this pop up will pop up 3-4 times, just click the same "always" & decline", basically the uconnect is asking "are you sure you don't want the PB downloaded.
5) when you exit the vehicle and return later, there will be a slight chime a couple times with a small & quick pop up at the top of the screen. just ignore it, this will happen about 3-4 times also.
6) as I mentioned, this is a temporary band aid but it will get you hands free use of your phone.
7) the BTSA (streaming audio) just does not work properly at all so don't bother with it.

Actually, the problem IS with the Uconnect system. The bluetooth codecs found in iOS 4.2 (it might have been 4.0, I can't remember which version got the updated BT protocol) and Android 2.2+ are different than the protocols found in earlier versions, which is what the Uconnect software was written to work with.

And the streaming audio via BT hasn't worked ever, that I am aware of, and that's not a phone issue, either.

I downloaded the .iso file, burned it to DVD and updated the 430N in my 2011 Wrangler...no problems. Travel Link, while only minimally useful, is now fully functioning. And I have had no trouble getting my RIM BB to pair and work seamlessly with UConnect and it still works fine after the update.

The digits on the lower right of the radio is only the model of the radio. In order to know which module that is in your vehicle, you actually need to get behind the center finish panel that is around your radio. This is a bit of work, but you can pretty much be guaranteed that it is the the 05064635AG module.

I'm not here to get into an argument over this. Lord knows that there are plenty of engineers out there and I'm not one of them. However if this issue had nothing to do with HTC but instead was Uconnect then I would assume that the Uconnect system would be the only system experiencing a problem. However there are complaints all over the web about android phones having issues with aftermarket radios (such as Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, JVC, Clarion etc) & HF modules in Vehicles such as Ford, BMW, Mercedes, GM, Toyota & Mazda just name some. Oh yeah I forgot there are also people having problems pairing to a few different ear buds as well.
