2011 Soft Top on 2008 JKU???

OK guys a friend of mine just bought an 08 JKU with a hardtop. I found him a soft top on CL but its off a 2011 JKU. I called the local Jeep dealer to ask if there are any differences and the parts manager tells me they have different part numbers and the newer soft top wont fit the older JKU. He tells me the hardware is different and the way it attaches to the Jeep itself? Does anyone know if this is true or are there ways around this? I noticed that all the aftermarket tops fit ALL model JKU not just certain years. Thanks!

I think if you got all the hardware with it, it would fit, but not sure. Call Bestop to find out for certain. We have a '10 top on our '07, but maybe they changed things with the '11's

The difference is in the door surrounds. There may be something different in the way it attaches to the tub in the rear IIRC. Go look at one on a dealer lot.

2012 Soft top on 2008

I just put a 2012 jku soft top on my 2008. Main difference is a bit more clear plastic in the back window, a bit different front hinge piece that makes it a little easier to open the front, and it doesn't clip under the door piece along the top but seems to have a bit of elastic or something that holds it down tighter.
