2011 Uconnect SW update info

Hello,
In response to a PM that I received today from a member:

I know that I have this information in several threads, but I can't remember which ones. So I'm going to start a thread with the update title.
This is the update that has been out since June of 2011. It's for 2011 vehicles that were built prior to 6-1-2011 and have the Mitsubishi radios (RES, REQ, RBZ & RHB) ONLY. It is not for the Harman radios (RER, RHR).
This update will fix the "error occurred" that is displayed when connecting an iPod or Iphone to the docking cable. It will also fix the choppy audio when streaming audio thru BT.

Here are the instructions: Make sure that you DO NOT have any power interuptions during the update, for best results have the motor running so there are no interuptions).
You will need at least a 2 GB thumb drive. If you have files on the thumb drive, please delete them and format the drive (to FAT32) just to make sure that it is completely clean.
Download it to the thumb drive that has no other files on it. Turn the radio on, Place the thumb drive in the center console USB connector (on vehicles with the dealer installed unit, it should be in the glove box), press and hold the Uconnect button for about 12 - 15 seconds, you should here "update started". This process should take about 15 - 20 minutes, there will be some beeps during the process. Please listen during the update for any error message that may be said by Uconnect. When the update is completed, the radio screen will go back to a radio display. Turn the ignition off, open & close the drivers door. Wait about 1 minute, then turn the key on and test the system.

and here is the file location:
uconnect.upd

x, I received the 730N RER update disk (I phone 4) from Chrysler and attempted the update. I was unable to follow through with it and when I later tried it was a no go. I contacted UConnect and I was told the dealer had to do a "hard re-set" and try again when the process could be completed. I should have followed the directions, my fault. Would I be able to do this some how or is it off to the dealer.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes and then reconnecting it? This may help before having to take it to the dealer.

Tried the battery disconnect but it didn't work. Stopped by the dealer and the took it right in, did the re-set, loaded the disk and everything is good. No charge. I have a good dealer, never a problem and always willing to help. In NJ, go figure. Thanks for the advice x.

This the exact same file that that the tech will use if you were to go to them. I have had a couple people on a different forum use it happily.
On a different note:
you mentioned-----i have this problem but would like to do it himself instead wait a week for a dealer.
Who is "him"

I have been testing a beta version of the iOS6 and haven't seen any issues (yet). Seems to work well. Seeing how that was a beta version, I will be updating a different phone with the released version of iOS6 when it becomes available and test with the released version.

Iphone Works Now

I have a 2011 JKU and I had the iphone playing fast / skipping problem. I was about ready to do this update procedure but I got the message about IOS6 on my phone. I did the update and decided to try it with my UConnect radio before doing this procedure. It now works fine so it looks like IOS6 fixes the problem.

I realize this thread is old. I have a 2011 JK. I added the UConnect to my RES radio. It worked great with My samsung Flight phone with ATT. I switched over to T mobile. Big mistake. The first phone with T mobile had problems. I upgraded to a data plan and now have a Samsung Blaze. It also has problems. It will not steam audio in or out when a call comes in. Very annoying. I spent time with Uconnect support. Thier answer was sorry, your phone is not compatible. I am up to date on my saftware and keep checking back. T mobile Tech support told me the reason was Uconnect is using a very old BT software. Which makes no sense to me. Other newer phones are working. but I am not a tech person. I am at a crossroad. Pay to get out of 2 year contract with T mobile and then pay fees to go back to ATT. or wait it out and hope for a fix from either. I was also told i could buy an unlocked phone that is compatible but also a risk and expense.
My question: If I try this upgrade what risk am I taking? I may already have this update. The dealer installed my Uconnect about a year ago.
Thank you for any assistance.

I have tried this update today. WhenIi press and hold the Uconnect button I get a message that states. Attach the mass storage device with update on cable and try again. I tried formatting the drive a second time, downlaoding the file a second time. I still got the same message. Since I noticed the LED on the flash drive flashing, I assume it was trying to comnunicate. But does not recognise the file. I also tried to find the file from another link that said the file was no longer available.
I have the RES Sirruis radio, in 2011 2 door wrangler. I added the Uconnect to my Jeep. It was configured by a dealer. It worked flawlesly with my ATT Samsung Flight. I am now with T mobile and have a Samsung Galaxy blaze. It will pair but will not stream audio in or out when making or receiving a call.
Any advice is appreciated.
Do I need to get an aftermarket radio and ditch Uconnect?

Hello TexasPerry,
I will try to help you out, first though, I'm just a little confused about the comment below about "streaming audio when a call comes in".
You mentioned that the dealer installed the Uconnect kit for you. Could you take a picture of the module so I can see the PN label. The techs usually place the module below the glove box wire tied to the dash structure. Depending on the PN this will be a needed update. What other issues are you having?

Perry,
You need to "press and release" the button, not "press and hold". I hope this helps.

XSDBS,
Thank you for your reply.

Actually I did the install and the dealer had to do thier magic to marry the the install to my Jeep and register it etc. So no problem locating the module. But I am at work at this time so I will do that this weekend.
The only problem I am having and what I mean by streaming Audio, is this.
When I get a call. My radio shows incoming call on the display. It even displayed the number of person calling. When I hit the Uconnect button I cannot hear anybody and nobody can here me. Then I get call ended message. If I make a call, again. the voice promts work. I say call and a name. in confirms the number and dials the call. When that person picks up again I cannot here them they cannot here me.
Prior to me switching to T mobile I had an ATT flight phone. That worked perfectly. I even had the TXT feature working. Where it would ream me my TXT and let me send a programed response. That was awesome. This is why I suspect it is phone compatability. Which as I have written is what all the tech support people I talk to are telling me at both T mobile Uconnect and my dealer.
As for my attemp to install the update. The instructions read press and hold the Unconnect button for 12 -15 seconds until I hear Update Started. Then wait. I do not get update started I get please insert compatable storage device and try again. I did format the flash drive to fat32 and the only file was the one I downloaded.
My Phone is a T mobile Samsung Blaze.
I thank you for any help.

Ah, I know this one. You're correct, I had originally said to "press and hold" the UC button, then some people were having issues so I started having them "press & release" the UC phone button then say "set up, software update" to start the process.
Now just to make sure this is the correct update for you, I will wait to see the picture of the module so I can determine which update you need.
In the Blaze, can you tell me what the Android version, SW version & Kernal #'s are?

Ok, you have the 2012 Uconnect module, on that lbel I am sure that you'll find the SW version is 63.2.48, (is this correct?).
That is the most current SW for the Uconnect module. I will see if I can borrow a Blaze, check the SW that is on it and see what I can find out for you ok. Give me a couple days to get it together. I'll let you know what I come up with, ok.

Thanks again. You have done more than any of the tech folks at uconnect, Samsung, and T mobile. Much appreciated.
I will have to look at module again for SW version I will do that later today.

xsdbs,
Verified the software from the lable. it is as you stated 63.02.48.
If you do not discover a fix. Can you suggest a smart phone that does work well with my Uconnect.
Thank you again

Perry,
I have sent Samsung Technical an email asking about the newer SW that you have to see if I can get any information on what it contained different to the SW that the phone had when I checked it out for a friend last year. Let me look into you're options for a different phone. I am seeing some of this same issue with ICS & JB SW updates where the phones have been working for quite some time and now started having issues after the update. Do you have a particular brand of phone that you like. I do know that the new Samsung S3 works well. Another issue that I'm seeing with the phones is that they aren't stable with MAP (message access profile for texting thru BT). It's rather strange that the mfgs will have a phone that works great and then a new model comes out and MAP doesn't work. Usually they will rec a message, notify you of it and the Uconnect can read it. But when you try to send a message, it fails.

I have no real preference. I have had Motorola and Samsung. I chose Samsung since my Samsung flight worked so well. Even the MAP feature. If I received a text it read it to me and allowed me to send one of the pre-written responses. No problems. Thanks.
