That's a good point.

My first gear is so low, I have to shift to 2nd quickly and step on it to go.

More good info about Pentastar development for Wrangler in that Motor Trend article:

We had to create a unique oil pan, an acoustic engine cover to reduce noise and improve appearance, optimized upper intake airflow for torque, and add equal-length downpipes to improve low- and mid-range torque response. Also unique are the front-end accessory drive and high-mounted rear-facing alternator for water fording. Its new pulse-width modulated 600-watt fan is 100-percent variable speed, not just high and low, plus it has a full face condenser for better A/C performance and a standalone transmission oil cooler.

I wonder what the " optimized upper intake for torque"- how that works

What about that Ram Horn curve to the downpipe???

It couldn't have been done differently to equalize the length?

You could hang your waders and fishing vest from it.

Best part of this is that it COMPLETELY closes the door on the xterra and FJ cruiser. I think everyone always preferred the wrangler for its looks and off-road prowess, but I know several people who went with xterras and FJ cruisers due to the massively better powerplant.

Now the jeep has an even BETTER powerplant and is faster than both. And its cheaper. I feel bad for toyota and nissan.

I think, if they chose them over a jeep, regardless-they should be shot and buried . They don't deserve a jeep IMO

6.7 seconds... Impressive. Years of launching different vehicles obviously has its advantages when playing with a new vehicle.

I wonder if the automatic can get close to that time or if you have to slip the clutch to get those kinds of times out of these vehicles.

Or-- if it is a 2nd vehicle or traded in for another jeep -- that does not apply

The "Sunrise Yellow" of the Xterra, was very close to the "Detonator Yellow" of the jeep, so the trailer still matches, unless ya get some bad lighting !!

That "acoustic engine cover" traps in a lot of heat. I'm sure they tested it desert conditions... Thankfully the ECM isn't underneath it.

Can't help but notice that all of the 2012 reviews now coming out, make a big deal over the 0-60 time as a metric of how much of an improvement the Pentastar is over past Jeep power plants.

Also, QueueCumbers 0-60 times appear quite accurate compared with the professional reviewers times. And, his assertion is certainly vindicated by the pros, that 0-60 time is relevant.

Maybe we'll see some grudging recognition that he was right??

....Probably not, except from me. You da' man, Queue.

Thanks! I am feeling pretty weak after seeing that 6.7 second 0-60 MPH time made by Motor Trend...

I'm guessing that it is a combination of things; one, my lack of experience launching vehicles; two, they used the lighter sport, which also uses different tires (different radius, unsprung-weight, traction); three, they used manual and I used automatic. However, they would have the Sport's gear ratio on their test vehicle while I am using the 4.10 on mine.

I wonder if I can take some time off of my numbers by using the manumatic...

NM, I knew I was losing a modicum of power and control by going with automatic; it is still the best choice for how I will be using the vehicle. I definitely didn't buy it to get top times at the drag strip.

I finally had a chance to test drive a 2012 Sport today, compared to my 2011.
There is much improved performance, not sluggish at all! before you know it you will be going 60+mph..... highly unlikely I will trade up just for that, but it did feel very nice driving it. fun to drive...
Cannot confirm gas mileage improvement, but I am sure it has increased.
