2012 BT Audio Quality update breaks Siri

Until yesterday, I used Siri on my 4S to dictate text messages, etc. Holding Home would activate the Jeep's mic and allow me to converse with Siri via the audio system. It was a nice workaround, since the Jeep doesn't natively support SMS dictation with iPhones.

Unfortunately, this week's TSB 08-018-12 update to fix the horrendous bluetooth streaming audio quality has broken this "feature." When holding Home, the Siri listening interface pops up, and the phone obviously thinks there's an external BT mic available, but the Jeep audio system never engages, leaving Siri both deaf and mute.

So while I can now use BT audio streaming, I've lost what hands-free functionality I had.

Nice, Chrysler QA team. Thanks a bunch.

There was a similer issue with Android phones last year after a update. I searched but could not find any information. If i remember correctly you had to re-pair the phone to the radio after the update. i know i didnt help much but google might help.

Yeah, thought of that too. Unfortunately, no good.

I tried another trick as well. Once the phone is connected via BT, I manually set the AirPlay popup back to 'iPhone'. The phone will alert me through its speaker to new messages or emails, but as soon as I hit the Home button to give a command, it instantly flips to UConnect (thinking there's a BT headset in range) and goes deaf/mute again.

Dumb question, but what is the TSB 08-018-12 Update and how do you apply it?

Actually this is not a Chrysler issue and Apple is aware of the problem. They have know that this was an issue for about 4 months now and still don't give it much attention. Seems they want to focus on new product instead of fixing an issue. You see they modeled SIRI off of one of their Engineers 2011 Cherrokee and used a BT address that was on the 2011 but not used on the 2012 Uconnect. They should have done more verification testing. Now you'll say something like "well why did it work before on my 2012 and now it doesn't". Well this is actually because the V1 2012 Uconnect had the late 2011 V2 Uconnect SW still being used while further testing was being down and issues fixed by the supplier. Apple has the abilities to work with others to validate their sysytems also.

I don't have any doubt regarding whose product is not playing nice with the other children. And to be honest, losing Siri isn't the end of the world.

3rd-party integration and its associated testing is a pain in the ass on normal days. I can't imagine the size of the test suite used to ensure that the world's most popular phone works with just about every vehicle model out there. Of course, I personally wouldn't mind if that test suite was just a half a page longer ...

Sometimes it could just be a 1/2 size wider also. If the device manufacturers would work closer with the car companies to validate that things will work it sure would be better for everyone involved.
You mentioned 3rd party associated testings, is that what you do for work?

OK, well then you can fully relate with having to be compatible with so many different devices as well as the fact that some people play just outside the box when it comes to BT specs.

Oh, certainly. That doesn't mean I have to like the results of OTHER people's testing.

true, but I'm also sure you have been the victim of having tested something on a device and then having the device that you tested with make changes without mentioning to anyone.
