2012 bumper nightmare...

Hi All,

First and foremost... 6456 miles on my 2012 JKU Rubi 6 speed. LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Litereally drove it up a rock wall last weekend... God bless front and rear lockers. I dont want to spend a lot of time on the beginning of the story, bucause it irritates the hell out of me. A very long story short, I purchased a front and rear bumper from Wild Boar after a few phone calls about them fitting. It was connfirmed, "Had a 2012 JKU Rubicon at a light show this weekend with the bumpers on there."

Nice people, made my order, and the downhill started...

A month later after several phone blame game sessions and no returned calls I received a front and back set of Aries bumpers, not unlike the WB ones. They were damaged, and rusted. That alone was enough to demand a return, but the real topper was they didnt even fit. Not the vaccum pump issue... The bolt holes were not a match.

More blame gaming, and about a dozen phone calls later I turned it over to my attourney to get my money back.

The money came back, with word from WB's owner that he would correct the situation. "Ill make you bumpers that fit and send them to you. If you like them, you can buy them.

That was almost 4 months ago...

That all behind me, I am on the hunt for a new front bumper. I would prefer something that I did not have to relocate the vaccum pump, and something that is going to accept my factory fog lights. (the idea of cutting that thing off and welding it somewhere else intimidates me, just being honest... and I am not a welder by any means)

I have spend many hours looking only to call and find that my selections will not fit the 2012.

Does anyone here have any leads? Pictures of yours installed? My biggest hitch so far is finding something that not only fits, but allows me to keep my fog lights. Surely there is something out there that will fit, will hold my stock fog lights, and give me a winch mount option.

Any input or knowledge is appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry for your issues with Wild Boar. I have heard of bad ordering experiences regarding their hard tops in the past.

As for bumpers, in my opinion, there is no better looking front bumper out there than the Poison Spyder Brawler Lite with Brawler Bar. Drop dead sexy. It allows for mounting of the factory fogs, supports a winch mount, and, from my understanding, will work on the '12 without the relocation of the vacuum pump. However, if you elect to run their front skid down the road, I believe the pump will have to be moved at that point.

It isn't a cheap bumper though.

Can be purchased from Northridge 4x4 as well. $120 extra to have it powdercoated, but many folks just bedline it.
Northridge4x4 Jeep Parts: Front Bumpers

It is also available without the brawler bar for a bit cheaper. Still looks good, I just prefer the bar.

Sorry to hear about your trials, but there's tons of stuff out there, my man. Shoulda come here first.

The Rugged Ridge XHD modular system will work, I believe. Pretty sure you keep your fogs AND don't have to relocate the vacuum pump. Very popular bumper system with WF peeps, so I'm sure someone can confirm or refute.

I have Rampage bumpers on mine, and KNOW that both of those two qualifications apply in their case.

I'm sure there are plenty more out there. I'd bet by the end of the day you'll have half a dozen good leads.

Here's a couple photos of my Jeep (2012) with the Rampages.

Kbwwolf, Do you by chance know what model number you have?

Examples,

Rampage 88510 Semi Gloss Black Finish Recovery Bumper

Rampage 86510 Front Recovery Bumper with Stinger

I ask because I have a few hundred dollars on an Amazon gift card I need to blow.

The idea of not having to move my vaccum pump excites me.

Indeed I do. These #'s are for the black powdercoated version. There's also a black semi-gloss version (though, as you'll see, Amazon has them labelled backwards...no matter where you order from, use the appropriate mfr # and you'll get the right product). I bought mine at Amazon...they were about $150 less (total) than I could find anywhere else. Strangely enough, the rear bumper costs more than the front. They're heavy suckers...I think the front was 110 lbs.

Front: 88510
Rear: 88605

The aftermarket fogs in the rear bumper are from Rampage, as well. They are mfr# 5083059. Can't remember where I got those from.

Here are some links:

Thumbs up Yep...........

............ I have the Rampage Recovery F&R bumpers and they fit my 2012 with ease

Heck, I had to remove the Rear to add the light package (an after thought) and it was easy, only 6-bolts & no problem for one person

One of the most hassle-free mods I've done to my Jeep, fitment- and install-wise. Only difficulty was tightening the top driver's side nut/bolt, since the vacuum pump was in the way. Had to use a socket with electrical tape in it to get the nut started...took a few tries. Can't even call it difficult, really...

Also, here's how I mounted my front license plate. That may not be a concern for you, or you may have other ideas on how to do it. Anyway, read post #15 in this link...

Front License Plate Bracket

Good luck!

Funny story... Tennessee does not require front license plates, or side rear view mirrors. Texas however requires both by law. Pulled over 5 times between Dallas and Memphis with the top down and doors off. Didn't touch me on the way in, but gave me true Texas Hell on the way out. Lol

It's an Engo E12000. I got with Chris from truck add-on's (he's a vendor here) and he got me a pretty good deal. I was going to go for the 9k winch for $289 but he talked me into the 12k for $309 and free shipping.

No problem,

Just as a word of experiance: I found the winch bolts to the Rampage winch plate easly and the plate bolts to the bumper with no problem. The only thing is that you will need spacers (I used washers) to raise the plate to allow room for the winch mount bolts between the plate and the bumper. The only alternative I could see would be to drill holes in the bumper. I'd be interested if anyone could come up with a better fix.
It's a design flaw if you ask me.

Dang. A couple of weeks ago, I was leaning to the Brawler Lite w/ Bar and the Brawler Lite Rear w/ Tire Carrier. But decided on different options (aalmost ready to order) because I want them shipped already coated/painted to the garage that is going to install them. Now I frem your lin above that you can get them powder coated before shipped from Northridge. So, that gets me interested again. Then, I look, and can you not get the rear bumper poweder coated too by Northridge? Northridge4x4 Jeep Parts: Rear Bumpers & Tire Carriers

Seems to be no option for that.

I think you can do it with countersunk hardware...that's what it looks like, anyway. IDK...I'll figure something out.

Thanks for the info.

OP

You mention welding. Are you talking about the vacuum pump?

If so, EVO and OR FAB make relocation kits that don't require any welding. They come with new brackets and you just cut the one off. I did mine a few days ago. Was pretty simple.

Just checking to see if that's what you meant.

Update.

So the buumper arrived Tuesday afternoon.

A couple of quick things:

1) Packaging was AWESEOM!!! Bumper itself was wrapped in rubber, then foam, then carboard with each layer individually taped. Then placed in a styraphome outer shell and locked in place with empty boxes, then encased in a double thick layer of cardboard. It survived UPS without a scratch.

2) Came with D rings, all mounting equiptment, and an optional winch plate.

So last night about 8pm I decided I couldn't wait any longer... Entire job took about an hour.

It bolted right up with no issue, and kbwwolf, you were correct about the finish. Amazon did have it labeled backwards.

THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!

A $5 swivel head from home depot made is a non issue.

Wolf, what's your wheel tire setup? 16"/33", 16"/35" or 17"/35"? I am looking to do a similar setup and am thinking of doing those wheels in 16"s with 33" Duratracs.

I gotta tell ya, after the stuff I've read here I'm ready to relocate the vacuum pump, flip the disco motor, extend my breather lines and replace my control arm hardware all as one giant pre-modding mod just to get acquainted with the thing. Seriously.

SO many killer ideas, so little time. Familiar song, no?

You'll be very happy. i spent the better part of 3 months going back and forth between bumpers, and finally decided on the Rampage. Couldn't be happier. Great finish, great fitment, thick manly steel ready to plow through soccer mom vans like water barrels, and looks like it came from factory.

I have a 2012 2 door Wrangler Sport and currently in the middle of installing a Rugged Ridge XHD bumper. I will tell you this it will fit, but be prepared to relocate the vacuum pump and it's bracket or mod the bumper. I elected to mod the bumper by notching it out where the pump is and it fits great leaves just enough space for the winch to fit in. I can post pics if anyone would like to see what is involved in modding the bumper. This was one of my buddies old bumpers he sold me on the cheap so I didn't mind cutting it to make it fit. I would be a little more concerned if it had been a brand new bumper.

Love my rampage recovery bumper and now want a rear bumper to match. Problem is the rampage recovery rear bumper is not rated for towing, can't get the boat to the lake. Do you guys think the rugged ridge xhd textured color will look similar?

That and the way the Rampage rear attaches is a joke. I wouldn't want to actually use the bumper as an attachment point to pull me out.

Rampage all the way!! No spacers here, relocated the winch plate forward one inch and hard bolted the plate and winch right to the bumper.
