Gotta have some DEEP pockets to drive one of these bad boys. Easy $40K+ out the door. Easy. I will admire from afar.

Yeah.....they look cool as all get out.....but too much cash for me. The real benefit is having the lift having covered under warranty.

Bah let me retype that. the package itself looks like grey wheels, slush mats, bumper, hood, grab handles, gas cover, light guards and badging. special wheels and winch are optional, no prices mentioned? thats alot of coin for essentially a hood and bumper

That's an interesting quirk, isn't it?

Of course, you're PAYING for that coverage by overpaying for the lift. But setting that aside, how tall is the lift? Is it a coil or spacer lift? And since it's dealer installed, I wonder if the actual lift manufacturer changes depending on where you are in the country.

In my view, that mostly kills them on warranty denials for similar aftermarket lifts. It's basically an admission by Chrysler that properly installed lifts of whatever height it is will have no adverse affects on the rest of the vehicle.

i completely glossed over the lift in the options. is it a spacer lift, or what? are there any details on it, at least the height?

No info on the lift yet, but per the info released on facebook, etc it's a 2.5" lift.

Candidly, I wouldn't be surprised if Chrysler's position is that it's not be covered by the warranty. It's not installed at the factory and lifts have always been considered "performance parts" under Chrysler warranties--so that's all there is to it. No coverage. And like I said, I think covering any 2.5" lift kind of ropes Chrysler into the position that properly installed 2.5" lifts don't cause any real damage.

The only thing that makes me think otherwise is the fact that it's specifcally being offered by Chrysler (rather than an individual dealer) as a dealer installed option. That certainly gives consumers the impression that it's covered, and would seem to make it closer to a "genuine Chrysler/MOPAR accessory" installed by an authorized dealer (which would be covered) rather than a "performance part" (which would not).

So what's Chrysler to do? On the one hand, I wouldn't be surprised to see consumers being required to sign something upon ordering the lift that specifically acknowledges it is excluded from warranty coverage. On the other hand, that doesn't look so good and practically giving the "OK" to 2.5" lifts really just isn't that big of a deal.

I expect this is why there was so much hemming and hawing over whether the 2012 COD edition would be offered with a "stock" lift. It'll be interesting to see how this is handled.

my uncle bought a f250, big thing with the extended bed and 4 door cab, with dualies, and a 5wheel for towing. factory. bought the warranty from the dealer. rear diff wound up leaking, so he brought it in for warranty work. told him he voided he warranty because he modifed the truck for towing. when he asked what mod they were referring to, the dealership told him "the factory tow package"

I suspect we will hear a couple similar stories with this

It's still considered a dealer installed option. Just like the Katzkin leather. They both come as kits to the dealer and both have to be installed. When you order the kit with the COD it basically means that the lift kit will be a the dealer before the Wrangler so it will be installed before you pick it up.

Right, but will it be a "performance part" (no coverage for the part or any damage it causes) or a "genuine accessory" (coverage for the accessory as well as any damage it causes)?

Sounds like your inclination is that it'll still be viewed as a performance part, and that makes sense to me, but . . . . Something about that arrangement does make me a little uncomfortable. Presently, dealerships--totally on their own--offer to install lifts and those lifts are not covered by Chrysler (though they may be by the dealership). And I'm comfortable with that as Chrysler itself isn't pushing them.

By contrast, the COD format sounds like it's taking this set up to the next level--it's going to be mentioned in the Chrysler published brochures, orderable along with all the other options during the purchase process, and probably shown in Chrysler sponsored advertisements, etc. It seems to me that the presentation more strongly gives the impression of coverage, no?

Just and FYI if anyone is in the area and wants to see/drive it. I'll have one here this week, and I'll be at the BestBuy in Northbrook, IL on Willow(The Glen) on Monday, 11/7 from 10AM until 1PM to go along with the release of the game.

I believe that's a 2011, which basically put the Mountain Edition lipstick on a Rubicon instead of a Sport. The 2012 sounds a good bit more dynamic--steel bumpers, winch, different hood, etc. The 2012 also uses black wheels, rather than the mineral grey that went with the 2011 and are pictured here.

But . . . does BDS cover damage caused by their lift. That's really the question. Covering the lift components themselves is no big deal as far as I'm concerned. It's covering the ripped driveshaft boot that would really be going the extra mile.

If I had the badges, seats, wheels, and Fuel Filler Door I would be close and it was a lot cheaper.

My bad, I'm positive that was a 2011.

Still looks neat though.
