2012 check engine light

hey, having a tiny problem with the check engine light being on, did the on off on off on diagnostic and the mileage goes blank then pops up and says done so its no help, but have noticed that the "eco" thing that pops up when i barely have my foot on the gas has gone away completely, would this be because of sh*tty fuel economy? any helps appreciated so i dont stress before my next trip to the dealer

My 2012 owners manual says that the MIL light can go on with a loose or missing gas cap or poor quality fuel. It may take several start/stop driving cycles for it to clear out if this is the case.

Either way, you can take it back to the Dealer, they'll plug in a code reader to figure out what fault code is stored, clear the code (which will make the MIL light go out) and repair what failed.

The most common cause for a check engine light is a loose or leaking gas cap. With the engine off, unscrew the gas cap, then screw in back on allowing several clicks as you tighten the gas cap. If the gas cap is the problem this should solve it. If not then you likely have an evap emmissions leak or an electrical emmissions sensor problem. Either way the warranty should cover any repairs.

Ok think I figured it out. It is the sh*TTY gas mileage thing. If you drive it fr an extended period with the gas indicator light on the check engine will come on as well. At least I think

Ummm I'm not so sure about that. If you are not planning on taking it in right away, you can reset by pulling the neg lead off the battery. If the code reappears try to capture it a bit sooner with the keyswitch.

Like the others..it's warranty and worth the trip to have it checked.

Like was mentioned several times prior, it's all warranty work for the next couple years, so don't hesitate to be a pain in their a*s when things go wrong.

As much as I love my Jeep, I still have a few compaints, and one is that there are WAY too many dummy lights. Another is the fact that the sensors which actuate the dummy lights are WAY too sensitive.

will it still show there's a problem without the check engine light being on?

Yes... the ECU will store fault codes which can be retrieved

Not in my case it didn't. Mine started running really rough a few weeks ago and the CEL came on and then it started to act like it was going to konk out. I pulled over and then restarted it which was a very hard start and then it seemed ok. I took it to the dealer after that and no code was stored in the ECU even though the CEL was on....It's been fine ever since. *knock on wood*. Something tells me I haven't seen the end of this gremlin though and that it is electrical in nature because I've had a few other strange issues. Once the key FOB wasn't working and wouldn't unlock the door until I opened the door manually with the key and the alarm went off then the FOB started working. The other day I hit both the left and right front window button at the same time and the uconnect voice came on...Ah Jeep quality.
