2012 Dual Top...no windows

Hey Guys,

I just got off the phone with my dealership and I need to vent. So last july I bought a 2012 Sahara with dual to option. Ever Since I bought the jeep I haven't taken the hardtop off since I had nowhere to store it. So, fast forward to this weekend when I finally got a garage and can store the top. I take the hard top off. through the soft top up and hmm....I seem to be missing windows. After a quick internet search I come to find out that I should have received two boxes inside my Jeep when I took delivery last year. I didn't know this since this is my first Jeep vehicle.

So I contact the dealership yesterday and explain what happened. I spoke to the salesman that sold me the car and he was shocked that it never came with the vehicle. he took my info and told me he would call me back today. So what do you guys think happened? He spoke to his manager and they're not willing to give me my damn windows since it was almost a year ago!!! WTF

I contacted chrysler customer care and filed a complaint against the dealership, they said they would contact me tomorrow once they speak to the dealership. Do you guys think this will get resolved? Or will I be buying windows that should have come with the damn jeep in the first place? this f-ing blows.

eh... no need to cuss the Jeep.

I believe the 2008 windows are the same as the 12's.. I know my 07 has different than 08 and newer.. at least to 10.. I could be wrong on 11s and 12s but I'm pretty sure they're the same.

zip em in and see. Then unzip them... remove the doors.. and go for a ride and forget all about the problems you had.

O and since there were a lot of "this happened to me" I just thought i'd throw in that my Dad bought a wrangler with dual top.. his came with windows :) haha

Seems to me that the problem is that Chrysler is trusting the people at the dealerships to think.... too much to ask.

4 those with Dual Tops...or looking to buy a new unit on CG.

At least for the 4 doors, there should be two boxes, two metal brackets, and the top itself.

1 box has the windows
1 box has 6 knobs, 4 straps, and the plastic frame rails
The top has the tailgate bar rolled in it as well

If you are buying the top from someone else, make sure you get the two metal brackets (and bolts) to go with it. When you order dual tops, they are already installed on the Jeep.

Same thing happened to me. Luckily I discovered the missing windows the first week and the dealership resolved the problem. They tried to make excuses on the phone so I went to the dealership. I explained to them that I closed the dealership the night that I purchased the jeep, and that my jeep didn't even get serviced because everyone had gone home. The other thing that worked in my favor was that I had not returned the dealership survey. They specifically asked that I not report the problem on the survey.

Well, i just finished speaking to the manager. He's goign to call jeep and "see" what he can do. He refused to give me the windows due to the fact that the car was purchased last July. regardless of the circumstances end of story. he said if Jeep was willing to "gift" me windows that would be another story but the dealer would not give me the windows that I did not receive when I bought the car. He said he might be willing to work out a discount for the purchase of new windows but that's all. I recorded the conversation and I'll upload it later today so you guys can hear what awful customer service sounds like. I'll be posting it up to youtube. Needless to say I'm am pissed to the extreme. Never again :banghead:

Sorry about your windows, but we don't want to get into specific dealer bashing....no need to upload the conversation.
Hopefully Chrysler can help you out.

Be aware, you might come out sounding worse than the dealer on this recording so I would definitely take heed. You may not get the sympathy you are looking for from YouTube. Even though I guarantee you are right and you didn't receive them, they have no way of knowing. Just as my 2 boxes may not be complete and they may tell me to f--k off too. I didn't check and had no clue what I was supposed to have.

I'm sure some dealerships do this on purpose and try to f--k with people, others are just inept. Just bite the bullet and move on. Be sure to get all your service and warranty work done at another dealership. I think the "Dual Top" option has become a nightmare for the dealer and the consumer. I'm sure both sides have taken advantage. I know people that would.

I have a friend who got a free total brake job as he was unhappy with the fast wear-out, even though it's not covered under the bumper to bumper warranty. Sometimes it pays to be nice and calm.

The thing is that I'm completely aware that these types of accidents happen No one is perfect, but to be dismissed like some beggar is what's the issue. Then he started saying that I should have known the windows were missing when I took delivery of the car. And that if I read the manual it would say that. When in fact there is no mention of separate boxes in the manual!! He then started to compare it to buying a surround sound system from Walmart and going back after a year and saying something was missing. I told him those two comparisons were not equal. I was missing a non critical function item that I would not realize was missing until I tried to use it. If I were missing a wheel I would have come back immediately.

Just got a call back from Jeep customer care. I was told there was nothing they could do about it at all. The dealership called me back and said they can sell me the parts at dealer cost of 576 dollars. WTF??!?!?!? *&^% Jeep and ^%@# that dealership. This is freaking crazy. Now I have to go to small claims court next week and escalate this. Horrible:banghead:

Can some one detail to me exactly what boxes and what parts were supposed to come with the Jeep? I need to get them quoted out when I fill out my claim at the courthouse, thanks ahead of time for all your guys help and well wishes.

I will play the devil's advocate here. I think you will have a tough time in court, because after a year's time, nobody knows what really happened to them. Not saying you did not get them but it won't take much of a lawyer to raise some doubt in the judge's mind. $576 is probably cost so might be your best deal.

On another post you said you recorded a conversation does the other party know you were recording them, might want to check this out before deciding whether or not to use the recording?
Recording Phone Calls and Conversations | Digital Media Law Project

I know when I bought my jeep I signed a release paper indicating that nothing else was owed to me. If you signed a similar document you can bet they will provide a copy in court. I think that is a standard sales document so I bet most dealers do that to cover themselves.

For your top, the rear window bar should be rolled up on the cover with the top. The 2 missing boxes should contain:

3 windows, 2 side and 1 rear
Door surrounds (4 for 4 door, 2 for 2 door)
Door surround knobs (6 for 4 door, 4 for 2 door)
2 rear window roll up straps
2 Sunrider Velcro straps
2 rear window retainer bar brackets (1-L and 1-R)

This is my first one also and if I hadn't been following that process I would have been unaware of the two boxes that are supposed to be in the back seat. Luckily mine were there and do contain the parts it appears. I think I will put the thing up and make sure that they are indeed the correct parts soon just to be safe. Good luck man.

Eye for an eye I say.Have a friend go down to this crappy dealer and test drive a new Jeep and look for one that has the boxes in the back. Then let the boxes accidentally fall out at your house as he stops by to show you the Jeep. Sorry I couldnt resist. I have a dark side.

So you think theft is the answer? Maybe it was meant as a joke.

Since it sounds like you really have no recourse with the dealer, just order a set of Bestop replacement windows. Quadratec has them on their site for $269.

These are the same windows as what your Jeep would have came with since Bestop's parent company is who makes Jeep's OEM tops. Same fit, same materials, no ridiculous dealer prices.

I would hazard a guess that ...

... about 75% of car dealerships are owned by and staffed by, in about equal proportions, incompetents and people of questionable character.

I hate going to car lots - it's a very rare thing to ever find anyone honest. I have on occasion, but the experience normally starts with the greasy pointy shoed sales type who comes out with some lame line like he's trying to win the worst pickup line contest in a bar, and then continues on with equally questionable people in every other department trying to extract every last cent of your hard earned money.

My latest foray was picking up my Rubicon ... they kept me there for four hours and then decided a scratch on the black fender was no big deal and I should get over it. I managed to get a document saying they'd try to buff it out. Weeks before there was paint missing on an $80k truck when we picked it up. How does the detailing guy miss 6" of missing paint on a fender? (they fixed that, thankfully).

Rest assured I will never set foot in the place again. That's the ultimate victory for me.

I guess you could just continue to beat your head against the wall and keep bothering the GM to look for your windows because since you didn't get them, they must still be there, or you could buy aftermarket windows, or pay the dealer wholesale and then tell them in a very loud tone when there are a bunch of customers around, that it's the last time they'll get the satisfaction of your business and never set foot in the place again, and tell everyone who asks what types they were - maybe you'll cost them a sale or ten.

Take solace in the fact that you've made a lot of people here aware of what is supposed to be in their Jeep at delivery.

No offence to any actual honest dealerships on here. An honest one would have had a delivery slip and gone through everything with the OP when he picked his jeep up. A really superlative one would have removed the soft top from under the hard top and asked the customer which one they wanted to drive away with (and delivered the other one). They might actually earn their PDI charges that way.

When I got my Jeep this past fall I googled the dealerships to death. Not only them but the salesguys that I had interacted with either via email or in person. The reviews I read meant quite a bit in which dealership and which salesperson I went with. The OP should ensure his unemotional, professional, fact-based evaluation of his experience with his dealer. Just 3 or 4 sentences. It holds weight and carries pretty far.
