What probably happened was shipping damage and they patched it with what they had rather than doing it properly. You know the dealer drill: "We'll get this all straightened out by the time you pick it up but you have to do the sale paperwork for us to get started working on it."

We used to get stuff like this from the factory when I worked for a Ford dealer. Had a F350 come in with 150 badges.

One of my favorites that nobody noticed til the customer brought it back was the explorer sport tracs had explore sill plates on the front doors but one came in with mountianeer plates. They never made a mountianeer sport trac though

The itallians are noted for making love, not cars! Fiats have never been a German quality car, and pretty much the same for the English cars.

do not know anything about unions except what I have been told by the oldsters. Orders or f,ups in paper work or how ever it works trumps common sense. If there was an animal factory and the build sheet said tiger with zebra head no one would question it and build it. Maybe the fender people have different unions with painted and plain and as it went down the line unions trumped common sense. From what I have been told over my 40 years in the construction industry and just throwing something out there. Some times a unit trumps common sense. I am not anti union but how could this happen ?

You guys are all worked up over nothing. This was a special order by "Two-Face", one of the batman villains. He simply just cancelled his order.

I am a QA supervisor at a chicken place. Production can do special things. My plant is also a union plant and is sometimes full of fail.

If the quality control can miss that, what about all the important stuff? Going to check my lug nuts for proper torque and do my own quality check Sat. morning. I noticed my license plate light was hanging out last week. Had black plastic melted on it and after looking up the parts found out I never had the lens that it goes into. My guess is that someone in quality control just jammed the bulb into the back of the license plate holder and it melted through over time. Was cheaper to buy the part online and ship it then the gas money required to drive to the dealer. Missed matched fenders just screams that quality control is in the basement.

I would bet it happened at the dealership. Someone crushed it and they replaced it with what they had in stock. QC at Jeep is bad, but it can't be that bad! (or at least I want to believe so)

I would hold off buying a 2012 with all I am hearing. I wonder what issues will come up later with trans/motor package. I am not impressed with poppa Fiat so far, JEEP should be it's own American company like Harley Davidson!

My father was a union guy....and I'm a union guy. Unions don't make vehicles...people do. Unions protect workers from unnecessary harassment from management and negotiate contracts. The mismatched fenders is a quality control issue and a black eye for the company. Too many black eyes and sales plummet....regardless of whether there is a union or not. Some car makers do not have unions...they turn out lemons too. Read up on union history and you will hopefully determine why they even exist. Your forefathers helped that to happen and for good reason. It is now part of our culture. I don't think they are going away anytime soon. But I guess it is fun for some people to blame them for ridiculous things. I'm not a union defender but I do say they have their place in spite of what some may think.
