Some of you boys are spoiled...I am in a 2dr Rubi now, having come from a Tahoe Z71.

That said, 16.5 mpg avg on mixed city/hwy driving with a good amount of flooring it at 50-60 for break-in is a huge improvement for me. I'm used to 14.5 mpg driving extremely conservative....I'm racing around for break-in and getting ~15% better mpg's!

Specifically, I'd love to hear the following:

1. What are your wrangler specs? (rubi/sahara/sport, 2/4 door, 3.23/3.73/4.10 gearing)
2. How did you drive it this tank? (still in break in, city/highway breakdown, conservatively or like a bat-outta-hell)
3. What number fill up is this? How many total mikes so far?

I think this would be valuable info for potential buyers and also for comparison between current owners. For reference, I'll be ordering an unlimited rubi on Monday, but am still torn on the 3.73 v. 4.10 question.

Thanks - you guys rock!
17.7 MPG

1. Rubicon 2DR 4.10
2. Not too soft and not too hard. Already done breaking it in and reset the MPG afterward. Mostly local driving and a little highway driving. I will reset it again once I start commuting next week (highway driving)...
3. Third fill I think. 765 miles.

If I put some effort into it I can get 19.9 to 20 MPG driving around locally (I did this for a day...), but I don't care enough about scoring high MPG numbers for it to be worth my while. I like to hear the engine growl every now and then...

3rd Fill up took 12.35 gallons after 194 miles, including about 40 miles of trails/dirt road averaging 15 MPH with some steep grades, for an average of 15.7 MPG. Computer said 15.9 MPG.

2012 JKU Rubi with hardtop and 4.10s

Got about 1200 miles on it, about 50% highway, 30% winding hilly roads, 10% city, and 10% trails/off road.

Getting about 16.5 mpg in the city and about 19 on the highway and winding hilly roads of northern michigan.

Filled up twice so far. Picked the Jeep up with 6 miles. And yes reset the computer at each fillup. Aimlessly driving around, is about 70% city.

Date: 8/21
Odo: 270
Gallons: 16.19
Price: $3.459
Total: $56.00
Computer MPG: 18.0
Actual MPG: 16.31

Date: 8/27
Odo: 536
Gallons: 16.467
Price: $3.399
Total: $55.97
Computer MPG: 16.7
Actual MPG: 16.15

I also have gas station name and location on my little spreadsheet I keep in the Jeep. Be interesting data to look at over time.

Edit: Also, this is for peppy break in driving without getting the RPMs too high. Well, ok I've done that twice. And this is also with the AC full blast, temp all the way down and fan speed all the way up.

My Eco MPG

Just out for a little drive today, so I figured I would play around with it and check some MPG figures with computer.

2012 JK Rubi, 4.10 auto, Trektop, no back seat, tires at factory recommended 37 psi cold. Numbers are pretty close to what I could remember. FYI, the computer and my real world numbers so far have been pretty close. My mixed and in town driving has stayed right around 19mpg verified on fillup. I drove several miles at each posted speed limit, using cruise control as my foot tends to get heavier the faster and louder the music gets .

55mph- 2000 rpm -23.9 to 24.2 mpg
65mph- 2400 rpm -19.3 mpg
70mph- 2600 rpm -15.6 mpg
75mph- 2800 rpm -15.0 mpg

Wow! I wonder how the JK owners can afford to be zipping right by me on the freeway, when they have a NEW car payment on top of their expenses.

25 MPG is the high end of the highway fuel economy range for the new Wranglers in stock form, looks like if you're willing to squeeze it's willing to please. Now imagine what you could get if it was a CRD

Thank you for this info! This is very important to me. I'll keep an eye out for this type of data from other JKU's. I need to find that point of diminshing returns at highway speed....and at what RPM's. The difference between your 65 and 70 fuel economy is huge! That reminds me of my Libby...which falls off a cliff if you go over 67'ish mph.

6 spd gearing

For what it's worth I saw a review of the '12 JK/JKU at JP magazine that stated the ratio for sixth was actually .797 in the new '12s and not .84

Any truth to this? I guess I don't remember seeing it anywhere, but it would have been easy to miss in the thousands of posts. If true, a little better mileage would be expected.

"Backing the new engine is a new automatic transmission. The old anemic-shifting four-speed auto tranny has been replaced with a much more heavy-duty A580 five-speed overdrive automatic. It’s the same tranny that can be found behind the 5.7L V-8 engines and similar to what’s found in the ’11 Grand Cherokee, except it’s not a sealed unit. The Wrangler A580 gets a dipstick but it’s still considered a “fill-for-life” transmission that requires no maintenance. The new auto also comes with Electronic Range Select, a shifter that can be toggled to the right or left to control selection of the desired top gear. The new five-speed auto offers closer ratios as well as a deeper First gear than the older auto. The old auto has a 2.84:1 First, 1.57:1 Second, 1:1 Third, a .69 Fourth, and a 2.21:1 Reverse gear. The new A580 features a much more driver-friendly 3.59:1 First, 2.19:1 Second, 1.41:1 Third, 1:1 Fourth, .83:1 Fifth, and a 3.16:1 Reverse gear. The NSG 370 six-speed manual returns for 2012 and remains mostly unchanged as the standard transmission. The new NSG 370 features a taller .797 Sixth gear Overdrive compared to the .84 Sixth gear of the earlier models."

No gas JK in any configuration is getting 25 mpg on a whole tank.

How much reduction in MPG should you expect from running 35s instead of stock tires?

Yes, how does it drive around town?

Did you notice a drop off in MPG between 70mph vs 75mph?

What top did you have on?

I would hope that after the motor is broken in, you could get 18/23 overall....in the summer at least.

Uggg....not looking forward to another Chicago winter.

OK, well at 1200 miles I am getting about 16.9 miles per gallon (based on the on board computer).I have a 2012 JK auto. That is not too bad considering ,I like to drive my Jeep hard.I do 70% driving in city and 30% on highway.

I am especially enjoying this auto-stick, it makes me feel like I'm driving a 6speed. (lol)
Although it is a bit hypersensitive.

Not what I was trying to claim, thats just what the window sticker claims it could achieve under extraordinary driving conditions (Its in fine print). 21 mpg is the average highway thats most likely to happen under conservative highway driving conditions as typed in bold face on the window sticker. All depends on how and where you drive and the given weather conditions.
