2013 Rubi- mpg getting better

Not nearly broken in yet, but-

2013 JKR manual, all stock, highway and rural driving, no significant mtn. passes yet,
calculated avg. (but matches displayed so far);

first 2 fill-ups, 17.5 mpg
next 2: 18.5 mpg

Pretty conservative driver- no jackrabbit starts or aggressive stuff.
I don't expect much better mpgs than the above, but one can hope- we'll see!

Short trips are a killer. My daily commute is...
1) 4 mile trip to work...then sits for 8 hours
2) 2 mile trip to the gym...then sits for 3 hours
3) 6 mile trip home....then sits for 10 hours

Result....and this is babying the heck out of it (2 door, no lift), i'm talking 2k shifts.

Last vacation trip: 21.6 MPG with 3 adults, 2 children and loaded with luggage. About 700 miles, mostly highway. Daily driving, mixed city/highway is about 17.5 MPG.

I finally saw the "mythical" 20+MPG's....

I had only 1000 miles on the Jeep at the start of the trip but 240 miles round trip up to the Pocono mts. and back. Before I hit the steeper roads I was sitting at 20.8. Pulling back in my driveway it read 20.0. This is all stock 2013 sport S with 3.73 gears, hard top, and 6 speed. Prior to this I have been sitting right around 16 mpg on rural roads only.

I envy your achievement of the mythical mileage.

I did a 258 mile round-trip highway run yesterday that consumed 13.9 gallons. I set a new mileage record with my 3.6 of 18.4 MPG in my 2012 JKUR, 5-speed auto, 3.73s, 4 passengers.

What's interesting is that I kept it between 70-75 MPH on the way out, and according to the computer, I was getting 16.9. On the way back, however, I was more impatient and wanted to get home, so I was running at 80-ish -- and the computer kept upping the estimate from 16.9 to 17.5 (indicating that I was actually doing better than that because of the averaging).

Computation after the fill-up shows 18.47 MPG for the trip, including the mile to the gas station this afternoon. This is the first time that the computer has ever read LOWER than actual -- usually it's off to the high side.

I'm wondering if there's actually something more than conjecture to that 3,000-ish RPM "sweet spot" that is being discussed in another thread?

I've been tracking mine via fuelly. All but 2 or 3 fill ups. I commute 32 miles each way but don't drive it all the time.

If I went over 65 MPH the MPG's would dip (according to dash). We weren't in any hurry so I was content going the speed limit, even though nobody else on the road was!

I will concur with the higher RPM range. The jeep seemed to like 5th gear better between 55-65 better than 6th.

Broke the 20 mark

Reaching it's stride?

2013 JKR manual:

350 mile trip over 5k' mt. pass, much of rest of trip from 2k-3k' elevation, all 2-lane hwys; reached 1k on odometer at end of first leg...

20.1 mpg calculated!

(ECO estimation seemed to agree closely to the actual mpg overall)

Can't complain- I like the trend!

2013 Sahara 2dr with 2.5 inch spring lift and 34 inch tires. Heavy bumpers and winch with tire carrier as well. Total miles thus far is a little over 1100 and I got the lift within the first 200 miles so I have no real idea what stock mileage was.

Best highway mileage thus far has been 17.5 while around town average of 14.5. I have been able to achieve upper 18s however this is with short highway trips at 60 mph.

It seems as if the computer will take the average of low and high and mix them for a result. I have noticed upper 18s on highway then after exiting and driving a few miles in stop and go traffic it quickly drops for a lower average.

Sounds crazy but I added a 1 inch spacer to the rear coils to get a little more of a lifted look to match the front with 3/4 inch spacer. This resulted in the Jeep with a little higher rear for a small front rake. Crazy as it seems my mileage average jumped to around 2mpg better. Maybe the factory sets these up with the front rake to help with mileage and if not it did seem to help mine.

2012 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited - Automatic - 4.10 Ratio

75 Mile Trip - 16.2 MPG

Daily Commute (6 Miles Road/Freeway) - 13.1

It used to be a lot better, unsure why it sucks now.

I worry about this as well since I drive to work 1 mile. By the time I shut it down it's barely warmed up. Then to the gym 3 miles, then back home 2 miles. I get like 13-14 most of the time this way.

With just over 1,000 miles on my 2013 JKU auto with 3.73 gears, 92 degrees out all windows open, driving 65-70MPH I got 20.22 MPG on dash and calculated. The trip was 200 miles of all highway.

Pleased as I was going back and forth with MPG and the gearing choice when I ordered.

After about 16500 miles I'm averaging around 16.5 mpg mostly on city/suburban streets. It will go up to 22-23 mph on the freeway.

I've been tracking my mileage with fuely since February and I've been pretty impressed with my mpgs. Overall I'm at 20.8 average highway/city over 8,000 miles. I recently took a trip from Indianapolis to Sleeping Bear Dunes near Traverse City, MI and averaged between 24 to 26 with the freedom panels off and no AC running. I have a 2013 JKU Sport S with 6 speed, 3.21, hardtop, and stock 255/75/17 SRAs. A lot of people complain about the 3.21s and say to go with 3.73s but there is no way your going to get 26mpg with 3.73s! I'm happy with my decision to go mileage over power.

Not just for fuel economy either. Those short trips are going to wear your engine out more than putting miles on will.

I'm currently in the middle of a road trip with my 2012 JKUR w/4.10 gearing. Prior to departure, my in town mileage, to and from work, errands, etc... 14.4-14.8 mpg. Last night, drove from Houston to Montgomery AL, average speed 80 mph, 17.5 mpg. She has about 18,500 miles on her.

At 12000 miles, I am getting 17. This is naked with 2.5 inches of lift and 35's. Better than the 14 I got when she was brand new.

How do you reckon? More cold starts (heating/cooldown cycles)? The engine still feels way too tight at 7500 miles...doesn't want to rev. It doesn't feel anything near broken in yet. Either way, that's my driving pattern so tough luck for the Jeep! I'll forgive it if it doesn't get to 200k.

Mine has been averaging around 15.5-16mpg. 3 weeks ago I made a trip to VA about 2400 miles round trip. I averaged about 15.25 mpg. The thing that killed my mileage was using my cruise control in the hilly/mountain areas, in 6th gear. I am running 4.10 gears an my tires measure out at 33.25". Right now I have 12000 miles on the odometer. I will be heading back to VA in about 2 1/2 weeks. I'll try driving a little different and see how the mileage does. I have noticed that running this engine a bit harder, actually improves my mileage.

2013 Wrangler Miles Per Gallon

Hey everyone,

I have a brand new 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited, with less than 1,500 miles on it. Ever since I bought it, I've been keeping a close eye on my MPG reading. For the longest time, my Jeep wouldn't average any more than about 15.5 MPG. It didn't matter whether I was driving right down the road or taking a two hour trip somewhere. It concerned me somewhat because I know several people with the my same model and year Jeep, and they are averaging about 18.5 MPG (city) and as much as 22 on the highway; and some of those people have had their Jeep lifted and done a couple other modifications at that. I have tried resetting everything and watched my MPG go up to about 18.0 tops and then drop back down some. Right now, I am staying at about 16.8 MPG. Now if I remember right, the actual specs do say it average 16.0 MPG city, but most 2013 Jeep owners I know are getting at least 3-4 MPG better than me. Is this normal? What are you guys getting? I was contemplating getting it checked out by the dealership, but if guys think there is no problem here, then I guess I won't have to. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
