2012 Jeep Rubicon (4dr) Tan

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and am in the market for a 2012 jeep rubicon as a gift to my husband to be. I want to make sure that I am not getting ripped off when making this huge deal so wanted to run it by those of you who already have a Jeep/ are in the market for one.

Here are the details.

2012 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4x4
Exterior Color: Sahara Tan
Interior Color: Saddle Leather
MSRP: 40,800
Includes the following:
Navigation
BLuetooth
Leather Seats
3 peice hard top
Heated seats..among other things

I am planning to lease to buy and the dealer has given me these details of the deal -

Price $37,142 (after a $1K rebate from Invoice price of $38,142)
MOney Factor of 5.34 (which equates to 12% APR)
Residual of 58%
Drive off amount is $2,250
MOnthly Payment would be $532 + tax

Is this a good deal? Would you get it? Problem is that this is the ONLY Sahara Tan color Jeep Rubicon I can find in my area and that is the only thing my fiance is really all about (he has no idea I am getting this for him as his wedding gift btw )

Any help would be appreciated. Wanting to make the deal this week.

Many thanks!!

HELLO!! I just bought a 2012 Rubicon. Prices about the same as what you are being offered. I made a purchase not a lease.
Sounds like a good offer.

$1000 off invoice is a great deal! MSRP and invoice quotes sound right. Never leased a vehicle though. Others may be able to help more there.

2012 Tan Rubis are quite rare, as you probably have found. Jump now, or forget finding another!

Agreed. Good price.
I just bought one in August. Go for it.

The tan with tan leather is a great idea and looked really good on the lot when the wife and I went.

Oh, and be sure to let him drive it once in a while.

I'm not a leasing guy but your money factor and APR seem very high.

"MOney Factor of 5.34 (which equates to 12% APR)
Residual of 58%
Drive off amount is $2,250
MOnthly Payment would be $532 + tax"

I would talk to another source to see if it is competitive. I'd have a hard time paying 12% APR when interest rates are so low.

I have a few questions;
How long is the lease term? (months)
What is the buy out at end of lease?
Is there a reason you want to lease vs buy?

That money factor is horrible and a rip-off. I can get you the current going rates tomorrow.

I wish you all the luck in getting that Rubi. If for any reason it doesn’t work out with your husband to be, shoot me a PM and I’ll marry you sight unseen.

Ok, the current lease rate Jeep offers on its web site is 4.24% or a money rate of 0.00176
Given your purchase price, this is what a normal deal should get you:

Purchase price: 37,142
Residual value of 58%: $21542.36
with the aforementioned money rate you get about $536.62 a month plus tax.
US Bank offers leases on Wranglers with money rates as low as 0.00005 (or so some web sites say)
You can always approximate the money rate to an APR by multiplying it by 2400.

If you finance that for 72 month (with good credit you should get at least a 2.99% APR loan)
You take 37,142 and add sales tax (assuming 7%: 2599.94)
Financed amount then is 39741.94
Your payment is then about $603.65 a month.
Depending on sales tax in your area that amount will differ.

These numbers assume no down payment and just fees, license, registration and in case of the lease the first lease payment and (maybe) a $500 security deposit.

If I where you, lean on them a bit to get you a better money rate or see what deal they can get you for financing.
Ask them to waive the security deposit on the lease. Can you pay any money down?

Thank you ALL for all your help!!

I thought the same thing about the money factor which equates to 12% APR, however, mathematically he (the salesman) must've quoted the wrong money factor because my monthly payments would come out to $578 (including tax) and down payment of $2,250 (using 58% residual value and price of $37,142). I did question the money factor and he said that this is determined by the lender? Is this true or is it based on my credit (which is OK not great - 678)?

I am leasing for cash flow reasons - I plan to lease to buy that way it gives me a little more time to finance the car. With the upcoming wedding, I am unable to put a lot down for the car or have extremely high payments but I am adament on getting this for my fiance as his wedding gift. I have heard him talk about this car way too long to not get it for him.

POSSIBLE BAD NEWS - I was supposed to get the car today but the salesman just told me he is having issues located the one he has been telling me about via e-mail (I had to do all this via e-mail since it's a huge surprise) and that there is only 1 Sahara Tan colored Rubicon in California so he is working feverishly to get it for me.....are tan colors THAT RARE? I mean I know they're pretty rare given my research but I cannot imagine it being that hard to get one. Mind you I have been working with this salesman for over a month about this ......

Great choice! Don't waste $$$$ on the on-board "Nav" system, it's a pc of junk! Save your $$$$ and buy a portable Garmin Nuvi I have one, it's inexpensive and works like a CHARME

Chances are the leasing bank is ALLY, in which case they do not use a money factor they use interest rates. A lot of dealerships use lease software that allows them to see ALLY, and other banks lease programs all on one screen. The bad part is ALLY shows apr on these programs/software where US Bank and others still use a money factor. Given the fact that Wranglers do not have any incentives or incentivized lease programs ALLY is figuring a "standard interest rate" of 5.34 For those of you looking at leases, if it's thru ALLY that is the interest rate not a money factor. A money factor of
.0022 is 5.28%. So a money factor of 5.34 is much more than 12%
