2012 JK - Battery Warning Light

Anyone have any suggestions on what to check regarding an intermittent battery warning light showing up on my 2012 JK w/8k miles? I did a quick look at the battery, as well as tugged on the connections/cables to it - and all appears fine.

It doesn't come on right away - but after a few minutes (or longer) of driving. I hear the "ding" and it lights up. If I continue to drive, it "may" go off, but come on again a short time later. I doesn't appear to come on when I hit bumps (ie, a loose connection possiblity) or anything either.

This JUST started happening yesterday. We've had 80+ degree temps, and I do have 2 amps powering a sub and new speakers, and also have a winch installed. Obviously I'm not using the winch when I drive, but, even when driving with everything "off" inside the cabin, the light still indicates.

I've noticed no abnormal driving conditions; everything appears to run right, and the vehicle starts right up. Powering the vehicle off, and then on again clears it - but it will come back on again soon after.

Yes, I'll be taking it to the dealer when I get a chance, but thought I should check to see if anyone had any other ideas that I could check. The "notifications" center doesn't say anything (other than I'm due for an oil change).

Thanks for any suggestions.

Maybe unhook the accessory stuff (subs and winch) and see if the problem goes away. I imagine you're going to have a tough time getting a warranty repair with the mods so you might as well rule them out yourself first. Then start keeping track of the system voltage. You can buy a voltmeter that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket.

Your battery light comes on for one reason, low voltage in the battery. So either your battery sucome to being junk and not optima, or the altenator isnt charging right. Simple stuff, no worries partner : D

Thanks for the suggestion. I know these items have been running for a couple months without issue & I haven't made any changes recently either. But, I know - "stuff happens"...hopefully I figure it out easily tonight or tomorrow.

Remember any change in tempature, cold or hot is when batteries tend to fail. Go get a free charging system test at any parts chain like autozone etc...

I had the same problem with my 2011 Wrangler, but it was putting out too much voltage, and it started to shut down my radio, and my heating/cooling system, being that it is still under warranty I took it to the dealer and it was a "fusable link" that was bad. They replaced it and been fine ever since.

While I am here maybe someone has a suggestion on this.......I have a soft top that is looking a little dull. What is the best product out there to make it look better while also conditioning it ? Any suggestions are appreciated.
