2012 JK oil filter price

I had ordered 2 oil filters through Quadratec for $50.00 and both were on back order. I went to the dealer suspecting I would pay the same price but for 2 oil filters from Hendrick Jeep Dealer in Fayetteville I paid $15.88 for 2 filters..............................WOW, what a difference. So I cancelled my order through Quadratec and will be going back to the dealer to get a few more.

Paid about 12 dollars for mine, and the new or used o-ring makes a great bracelet.
In fact it replaced another rubber ring bracelet my wife put on me that lasted 20 years before recently breaking, so that was a plus.

If your dealer isn't selling them that cheap, go to ebay. I got them for under $8 each from a Jeep Dealer that sells them on there.

After reading this thread I went out yesterday to grab a filter for my JKU's first oil change. I went to Wal-Mart first and found that they didn't stock the filter for the 3.6. I then went over to Advanced Auto Parts and looked for one. Their books only listed the basic Fram filter as being available for the 3.6 engine. Now I am ok with using Fram filters, but the $38.99 price tag left skid marks in my shorts! Being one who hates to get gouged by opportunists, I followed the advice of a fellow Forum member and asked them to look up the filter options for the 2011 Grand Cherokee 3.6. Bingo! It listed two filters as being available for the 3.6. One was the same over priced try to take advantage of our customers Fram filter. The other was a Purolator filter for $5.99. Problem solved and home I went with a reasonably priced filter.

Just for the record, I thought the folks at Advanced Auto Parts were not the ones trying to do the gouging. They were actually very helpful and glad to find out that there was an alternative to the overpriced Fram filter. In fact, while I was there the sales clerk made sure the rest of the staff knew about the cheaper Purolator filter and proceeded to order 12 of them for inventory. As for Fram, I am disappointed. I've used Fram filters for years and never had an issue with their product or the company. As of yesterday that is no longer the case. Unless someone can convince me that Fram wasn't just trying to exploit a perceived opportunity, I will never use one of their products again unless I have no other options. I'm just kind of stubborn like that.

Cheers!!!

It's possible, but I doubt that it was an error. With other forum members also finding ridiculously high filter prices I can't help but conclude that Fram saw an opportunity to do some price gouging and went for it. I've seen this happen with the Ford 6.4 and 6.2 diesels over the last few years. I just hope Fram's bean counters and management realize that this type irresponsible action costs them a lot of customers. Then again...it's probably foolish to think they really care.

Just recieved 3 Wix filters from RockAuto. Including shipping it was a total of $17.98. Paying 6 bucks a piece without having to run around town is pretty good.

2 reasons not to do that:

often times aftermarket filters are not as good and can, although rare, fail (this was certainly the case in my last vehicle, may or may not be true for the jeep)

in the case of engine damage/failure due to oil blockage or leak, they have the right to not honor your warranty (if you are still under warranty)

I have a TJ so i guess I have no reason to worry about that. Warranty expired awhile ago lol. I have heard nothing but good things about Wix filters (manufacturer of Napa, Mobil 1, and Mopar iirc?) but to each his own, I don't want this thread to turn into a filter debate. I would be speechless if Chrysler denied a claim because someone didn't use a Mopar filter, but who knows, they may do that sort of thing.

I picked up two Wix filters at about $10 each at O'Reiley (aka Checker). I find it amusing the cartridge filter is double the price of a can flter as there is less material and a simpler design which equates lower production costs no matter how you slice it. Gouging indeed.

I just found the NAPA Gold part number 7144 for $6.49 made by Wix. Probably better filter than the Chrysler filter at the dealership for $9.50+. Found others at rip-off prices. great forum

on my cummins diesel (04) dodge had a short list of approved filters, and they would and have voided warranties if these filters were not used.

As stated previously, Wix makes Mopar filters as well.

Daggo66,
My Napa Gold(Wix) #7144 looks exactly like the Mopar #MO-744.
Part number is pretty close too.
Kinda confirms what your saying about the Wix/Mopar connection?

Tried to include the picture in the "quote" of DADavis03's post/thread showing the MO-744 part number. Didn't work.

Paid $6.20 for a mopar filter for the 3.6 last week from the dealer. $50 worth of filters and your oil changes are covered for the life of your loan lol

Quadratec filter

Is there something special about the filter that Quadratec sells for $34.99? I paid $6.80 for a Mopar filter.
