2012 JKU 1100 miles and a check engine light

Checked the gas cap, Tried starting it a few times, the light stays on steady. Off to the dealer tomorrow. Hope it isn't anything big. I don't have any ticking or anything else abnormal that I can tell.

I would give it a couple days. Mine came on after getting gas the other day. It takes several start/stop cycles before it clears and sometimes it just takes a couple days before it'll clear. If you're really impatient you can pull the negative terminal on the battery for 10 minutes and see if it comes back.

I would pull the code first to see what it is before doing anything so you know exactly what's going on before you bring it to the dealer. Do this and don't tell them you did and see what they tell you is wrong.

Thanks for the tips guys! I got the code P 300 which corresponds to power train, fuel injection/misfire. After pulling the negative terminal for 10 minutes the check engine light stays out. I'll see if it comes back tomorrow before I cancel my appt with the dealership.

I wouldn't cancel your appt. I would take the jeep in and give them the code, have them run a diag test, and check the head in addition.

I wouldn't have deleted the code. Although if it was on once, it will probably come back.

Otherwise, its your word vs theirs. The check engine light was on throwing a miss fire code... well its not on now... thats because I cleared it...

Was it ever really on... Especially with 2012s that had and are still having head issues

FYI, Sueby has her 12 going in for a head replacement for a misfire code. No tick either.

I'm going to drive it today on a couple errands and whether the light comes back or not, take it in for them to check out the head.

Thanks again for the responses. Just glad I hadn't changed the oil yet as my wife would have told me the light coming on was because of that!

This, go to autozone, they'll pull the code for free.

I agree with some of the others. I would take it back to the dealer. Even if they don't find anything, at least it's on record if it should ever happen again. Good luck and keep us posted.

Took it in last Friday, they said they wouldn't get to it until yesterday (Monday). Called today and they said they are still looking at it trying to figure out what is wrong. We shall see...

Going to pick it up today. Tech said he flashed the computer with an update and found some loose pins. He sent it home with his mechanic yesterday to ensure the light doesn't come back on. We shall see...
