2012 JKU Rubicon Uconnect and Connectivity

so, loving the new ride - first of many questions - i have the 430N radio with Uconnect - all works fine - the truck does not have the "connectivity" package, so no USB in center console and no phone controls on steering wheel. no EVIC, so the question(s) is/are:

- will adding connectivity package let me plug my iphone 4S into the USB in the center console and give me control of my playlists, etc. on 430N screen (as opposed to on iphone) - currently when i plug iphone into USB on front of head unit, it currently gives me nothing, zip, nada - so i can only play music via AUX cable or bluetooth - both leaving a little to be desired and only letting me control music from the phone

thanks in advance, and sorry if this has been covered, but i couldn't get an exact answer to this - and figured i'd post here before calling the dealership and seeing about adding (which i assume they can easily do?) and yes, i know i can add my music to the HDD.

Yes, adding Mopar accessories PN's 82212159 and the iPod cable PN 82212160 will give you full control of the iPone music thru the radio touch screen. The installation is quite easy as well. After the install the dealer will need to flash the TPIM for code RSP. They'll try to charge you an hr but let them know that you're aware that it takes less than 1/2 hr and you're willing to pay that. You may have to try a couple dealers before getting one to work with you.
2) the USB hub on the radio is for playing or downloading media to the HD and won't play iPods or iPhone media.

Hey, xsdbs, if I can hijack the tread a little.... maybe 6 months ago, I was watching your discussion with another WF member about his problem with an iPod and the Media Center 130 CD/MP3 with the connectivity package where there music would "stutter" just when starting to play. IIRC, you thought that a firmware upgrade was being developed that would address that problem. Any word on that? And, if something like that is available, is it something my dealer will do automatically, or if I mention the stuttering problem?

If I've remembered that all wrong, I'll go back and search for the old posts and see if I can refresh our memories.

Thanks in advance.

UHB,
over there on the left of your post, in the profile area it looks like you have a 2012 vehicle, is this correct? If so then yes there has been a Uconnect update that was released a couple months back. It's TSB # 08-018-12. This Update provides several enhancements. There are a couple of additional notes in the TSB also:
1) iPod / iPhone audio resume play will no longer be supported.
2) SIRI supported features, visual voice mail, voice memos (all from APPLE products) will not be supported.
I have discussed these items in recent postings to explain why they aren't supported now.
http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/ios-6-and-jk-166514.html (post #9)
This update can be done by the dealer or it can be done by you. I have another thread that explains how to perform the update.
http://www.wranglerforum.com/f40/2012-streaming-audio-quality-info-149162.html (post #14)
Hope this helps you out.

Just finished. Appears to have been successful. I now have SW version 63.02.48V:HS:d2. Time will tell if the update improves the iPod stuttering problem.

Thanks again for your expert advice!

Will do. I tested a bit by playing tracks on my iPod and 'clicking' forward to the next song as soon as the current one started playing OK. I didn't spend much time at it, because I'm not sure it's a valid test. Of about 20 starts, only one song "stuttered." I "clicked" back and forth to it and it stutter-started about one in three times. No other tracks had any problem.

Time will tell.

After a few days of normal listening while driving, the stutter appears to be gone and the 'Reading' process is much quicker. The update seems to have improved the RES-iPod 'handshake' significantly!

Thanks again to xsdbs!

Xsans - do you have the link to your thread on how to install a 430n head unit into a JKU SportS with Uconnect?

What is it that you need as far as information? If you already have Uconnect in the vehicle with a lower line radio, it's as simple as unplugging the old radio and installing the new radio. Total plug and play.

Xsdbs I am so appreciative of you for making the update available, the dealer had my jeep for four hours and wasn't able to get it working, with a usb and your data, I had it done on my commute. Keep us updated on the uconnect development page you had spoken of in other posts please

So, are you saying that the dealer couldn't get it to work in 4 hrs but you were able to perforem it during a drive? I just really don't get it. Why so many dealers are having problems performing this update as well as the ones that have been available since last year.
Well I'm happy that I was able to assist you as well as others here on the forum. I will let you all know more about the site as I get the information.

That is just what I am saying. Dealer had it all afternoon to no avail. He says to me "leave it overnight our tech will be here Saturday morning, we will leave it in the shop and he will do it first thing". I say " nah I will just bring it back another time". Boom, dealership burns down. Saved me another trip to the dealer

hey no problem at all. glad that was what you needed to know. the only time it is more difficult is when you go to a Harman radio (730 or 730N).

Mind if i ask you a question as my small town dealer I am sure won't be able to answer it.
I have a 2012 JKU Sahara that doesn't have Uconnect (has the basic head unit).
I bought a 730N RHR from another Jeeper.
I want to install it and have all features working ( wheel controls, unconnect, console usb and ipod cable.

I guess that the wiring to the wheel already exist and I just buy the button installation part and then the usb part and ipod cable?
The Uconnect bluetooth etc would be built into the 730N.

Im pretty good with this stuff so no sweat if you want to point for a response......if you would be so kind.

TIA

This will be a fairly simple install. Correct about the steering wheel buttons being plug N play. The dealer will have the USB cable (I think the PN is 68068278AA, if you find it's different, please let me know so that I can add it to my notes) and also you'll need to get the mic kit. (Mopar part 82211743).

Thanks!

So I went to the dealer and it the GPS antenna, just the short Pce without long cable.
Think this can be under dash mounted instead of in the roll bar?

I asked them about steering wheel buttons and they laughed and said it would be horrendous and expensive so they wouldn't look it up.

I ordered the iPod cable, looks like it mounts in the glove box - I thought it would go to console?
Are 2012s not in console?

I think I will have a pro install since its more involved then pre 2011. Looks like you have to take the A pillar off and the whole dash?!

Any tips info or advice appreciated.

1) The GPS antenna can be mounted in the dash but you want it to be as high as possible (maybe behind the radio on a bracket). Also you don't want any metal above it, plastic will be ok.

2) The steering wheel controls are not as bad as the dealer says. They just say what the think. Please see the link below:
Uconnect FYI

3) In the 2012 vehicles, yes the factory mounted USB cables are mounted in the glovebox but the optional cable would need to have an extension in order to make it to the console, I don't think that it's long enough. Not to mention the added work to remove the console, lift the carpet & run the cable. But yes it can be done another member did it.
