2012 JKU Stereo question....

Hey guys, just wanted if anyone knows....

1)Where the stock amplifier is located (infinity system) on a 2012 JKU Sahara

2)If you can just swap out the stock amp (with proper RCA connections to the oem headunit using an adapter) and use the stock speaker wires?

Thanks for any and all help!

On the 2010 (RHD) the inifinity amp is located under the steering column. The plastic surrounding the steering column on the 2010 simply pulls out at the top and swings down to reveal the amp and associated wiring, plus the computer.

I'm curious is on LHD cars, it would be behind the glovebox then...

Can anyone answer the 2nd part of the question about using an aftermarket amp with the stock head unit?

Which line converter will maintain the 730 radio/steering wheel volume controls?

If you want to use the stock head, you must keep the infinity amp as the stock head unit needs it to operate correctly. What you need is something like an AudioControl LC2: http://www.audiocontrol.com/t34/1761...l----LC2i.html

This goes in after the infinity amp, but before the aftermarket amp. It will sound great, you can add whatever amp or speakers you want, and you can keep your stock head unit.

I ordered the highest end line converter (audio control) but then changed my mind and ordered the PAC adapter that provides RCA outputs and is a plug and play unit. I have not installed it yet though.

I just did mine. The amp is located behind the left dash speaker. You have to leave it in place and wire in a signal processor. I used an audio controls LC6I. I have a MTX 5 channel amp and replaced the factory sub. Warning.. You will find that the factory tweeters are very harsh when you run power to them.
