2012 JKU Tow Group vs Max Tow?

My sticker shows a Trailer Tow Group with class 2 hitch, trailer sway damping and 4 pin connector. I've also got the 3.73 rear axle ratio. How does this differ from the Max Tow Group and am I still rated at 3500 lbs?

Thanks in advance.

Only difference I have ever been able to discern is that you paid less for the same thing.

As I remember, it was the conclusion of most who discussed it in the epic " 2012 Wrangler & June 2nd" thread that the Max Tow package is a rip-off.

The owners manual states the 4 door JKU with 3.73 is rated at 3500 while the 3.21 is 1000. Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything. And, do I have a transmission cooler or not?

Yes, all 2012 automatics have a cooler. Look through your grill and you'll see it. You just won't find it on the window sticker or the build sheet.

Your 2012 JKU with 3.73 axles is rated to tow 3500 lbs.

Isnt the Max Tow with the 3.73 the same price as the regular tow package + the 3.73 option?

Yep. Max Tow is just an easy way I guess for them to lump the 3.73's and Tow package together into one click for ordering instead of two. The price difference between Max Tow and Tow Package is the $50 cost of the 3.73's which are apparently the requirement on the JKU for the 3500lb tow rating. The JK can only do 2000 no matter what so there is NO Max Tow package for it. You can still get the 3.73's of course.

Nope it's not the same thing. If you want the 3500lb towing you can either get Tow Package for 270 and the 3.73 gears for 50, or you can just get the Max Tow for 320 which is a package that includes the 3.73's. If you go to "build it" and click on the Max Tow package you'll notice it automatically selects the 3.73's and changes the price from 50 to 0.

The only other difference I can think of is which springs they put in.

I have a 2012 JKU Sport (MT) with Max Tow and I've got the #59 springs in back IIRC. (60 being the tallest/stiffest) the fronts are #17 or 18 (can't remember) out of 20. It rides pretty stiff unloaded.

Putting on tow pkg.

Just bought a 2012 2 door sport. It does not have the tow package. I would like to add that myself but my sales person told me that it would void my warranty. He said they charge about 750 to add it for you. I can buy the stuff and do it myself for about 150 - 200. Does anyone know who i can check with about my warranty?

Your warranty can't be voided just for adding an aftermarket part. There is a law against it.

Check out the Magnuson-Moss act.

Not on Rubicons. MSRP for Max Tow is $320. Ya' don't get/need a gear upgrade. So what did Rubi buyers get for the Extra $50? We early orderers (ordered before price sheets and option details were released) took a chance on ordering Max Tow and were disappointed at what we concluded was a rip-off. Rubi buyers paid MSRP $320 for a $100 hitch and harness!
