2012 JKU wouldn't start

Drove home from work today and everything was fine (except for a noisy water pump bearing but that is a different thread). Went to start up the jeep in the driveway about 10 min after getting home and the normal dash lights lit up but the engine wouldn't turn over. Tried this a dozen times with the same results.

Some notes:
-I couldn't get it out of park. I had to remove the plastic piece and manually release to get it out of P. Even when i got it into neutral it didn't start.

-Did not throw any codes

-Was able to lock/unlock using the key fob

- disconnected and reconnected the crank position sensor with no luck

So I called up Matador and he had me disconnect the battery terminals for 15 minutes and reconnect. Jeep started up after that. Lou thinks it may be the immobilizer acting up and he might be right, however I've read that the immobilizer will let the Jeep start but kill it after 2 seconds..

I have a service appt on thursday for my water pump but I want to go in armed with any info I can... anyone have this happen? bad TIPM? any comments?

Happened to me a few weeks ago on my 2013 JKU.

It would turn over then immediately die.

I disconnected the battery for 5 mins and then it started right up. No problems since. The only thing that reset was my clock.

I had this happen on my 2013 JKU, the day after I brought it home from the dealership of all things. Parked it and shut if off on the way home from work to get the mail and went I went to start it up, nothing. Dash lights came on as normal but the engine wouldn't turn over. The only things I noticed is the red alarm light was staying lit on the dash. I had the techs from the dealership come where they proceeded to remove the ground lead from the battery for a short amount of time and once they put it back on it started. The next day it blew a heater blower fuse so I took it in where they discovered the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) was bad. Got it replaced under warranty and haven't had a problem since (knock on wood).

That sounds like an issue with the immobilizer... that will let it start, run for two seconds and then will die.

Yeah, all my research has been leading me to the TIPM. I have a decent amount of mud splatter around my TIPM but it seems nice and dry inside.

Funny thing about the issue I had is I had just taken it to be detailed and when I had the hood up trying to figure out what was going on I noticed the whole compartment was covered in a thick film including the TIPM. It was just on the outside but I'm thinking they sprayed it and it got inside somehow.

Happened to me the day I picked up my Jeep from the dealership.. The red alarm light will flash and stay lit. The chip in the key is bad. Try your spare.

+1 on checking this. I wasn't lucky enough for that to be the issue when I encountered this, but quite possible. But to the OP, I'd try that then look at the TIPM.

While i had the battery disconnected, i dug out the spare and was going to give it a try if the primary key failed to start the engine, but it started right up.
