2012 Leather option confusing

Im getting ready to order my 2012 JKUR and im kind of confused about the leather options available. I searched the forum but really couldnt find anything related to my confusion. Im ordering a black rubicon. Id like the standard $900 black leather interior option. But according to the build your own option on jeeps website, I cant order the standard black leather interior with black exterior on a automatic trans vehicle. This sounds crazy to me. If im understanding it right, i can only get the black katzkin leather on black/black auto trans. Can someone explain this? Why would a manual or auto trans have anything to do with what leather is on the seats. Im not a huge leather fan to begin with so im really not interested in the more exspensive katzkin. I was going to order the cloth WITH seat heaters, and since the $900 leather seats come with heaters, its really only a $600 or so difference. Thanks!!

Dave

Honestly I had leather in my previous Jeep and I will never get leather again. Yes they hold up nicely and the heated leather feels great in the cold, but the first time you burn the back of your legs in the summer when wearing shorts you will swear against them. So when I purchased my new JKU I stuck with the black cloth. They look really nice and I am hoping they hold up well. I wanted the heated seats but ended up not getting them. With the remote start it really is not needed so I am pretty happy with the cloth.

Just my opinion...

FWIW Katzskin dealers have a large number of options, including different colors, accent piping/sticking, and perforations. They can also do seat heaters, although we decided to go with the factory seat heaters.

We ordered some Katzskins with perforations and crush orange stiching for our Rubi unlimited which is currently being shipped. We also added crush orange in the perforations as well.

I live in West TX where the outside temp during the summer months can reach 110, and inside the vehicle temps can be 120+. I've never burned my legs on leather seats.

In addition you could use a sunshade. Here's the one I bought and it works like a champ.

Amazon.com: Sunshade for JEEP WRANGLER 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 HEATSHIELD Brand Windshield Custom-fit Sunshade: Automotive

No problem in SW FL either and we've always had leather in all our vehicles.

I didn't really find it confusing. I don't think a Wrangler should have leather so I paid it no mind......But I've had leather in every other vehicle that I've owned.

My build sheet says cloth, but we have leather and I think dealer installed as per the original owner, so which are these? The seats also have side airbags, which is on the build sheet.

You can get aftermarket Katzkin for about $900 installed front and rear... That is what I plan on doing since I couldn't find a build with everything that I wanted, but found one with everything BUT leather. They will also work with the side airbags. And I will save some $$$!

You can have black leather in you initial build. The Jeep.com site does not have all the build options on it. Have your dealer walk you through the build on their system. At the end, look at the build sheet they provide and confirm your options.

I guess the backs of my legs and the wife's legs are not as tough as others.

She did the most complaining but still wanted leather in her new car. Every summer she complains about it until she puts a towel on the seat. As I said that is just my opinion and I like the black cloth seats in the Jeep. I test drove a Sahara with the tan leather and interior on a black Jeep and I prefered the all black with cloth.

YMMV

I have a blacked out JKU sahara I've had for about 2 months - black leather, black interior, black paint. it is AWESOME. cant speak about the hotness level of it since i havent had that combo in the summer, but i've seen plenty of convertibles with black leather...

as for leather on jeeps, i dont understand why it's frowned upon. people think luxury when they think leather but the leather in mine looks to be tough as nails. not plushy leather like you'd have in a BMW. think of cowboys too...i dont see them riding around on cloth saddles...so until they do, i have no shame saying I rock leather in my Jeep!

I am a swim coach and both of my children swim competively. I have had cloth interior, but chlorine tears it up. It will stain the interior and soak into the cloth. Leather holds up much better against it.

I would chose Katzkin if I was ordering a Jeep right now. I had Katzkin in my 2002 Camaro SS and it was top quality. I also like all of the options they had.

As was mentioned, you can get Katzkins installed for $900 ... maybe even less. I paid $900, but that was perforated seat and lower back AND airbag compatible; not to mention the leather is wayyy nicer. The retail on that setup was something like $1200-$1300.

The website doesn't let you build it, but the dealer can.

Just make sure they leave the interior black, they don't select Katzkin Black Leather, and then on the next screen they can select the "Leather Bucket Seats" option, which will be black leather heated seats for the $900 MSRP. The code is something like "AL X9"

Like others have said ur dealer can order it for u. That's what I did and I love it. You'll love it and its a good priced option. Here's some pic's to give an idea of what it looks like. Sorry i dont have any of the back seat but its pretty much the same exept no "Jeep" written in it.

The web site is confusing. I ordered black rubicon with black leather. No problem at all. Like the jeep leather better. Good luck!

You were not asking for opinions of whether or not to get leather but if it is available. Yes it is. I have it and love it. Go get it if you want it.
