just bought a 2012 unlimited, anyone know where I can get LED headlights for my jeep at good pricing.

LED headlights and "good pricing" are mutually exclusive terms, I'm afraid. You basically have two choices: The Truck Lite LED's, or the JW Speakers. Hilldweller (the resident light expert) touts the JW Speakers...although Truck Lite has just released a new iteration of their version that he has yet to test.

Links coming.

think I'll wait for the new version to come out. hopefully soon
They aren't cheap. I've got the Truck Lites, for their durability more than any other reason, but iirc mine were around $500 for the pair (they're sold individually) off Amazon, plus $26 (I think) for the harnesses from 4wd.com.

Hilldweller will abuse me for this, but IMO they're a marked improvement over the votive candles that come stock on the Wrangler. :)

Pretty sure HD had the JW Speakers in his rig.

If you plug and play the Trucklites they blink...

Ray could build you a dongle with a capacitor in it; no need for a full harness with LEDs since they'll get to full brightness with less than 12 volts.

Only place the blinking has been noticeable (at least to my naked eye), is when I'm close to my garage door or another flat surface.

That said, I'd be interested in this thing you call a "dongle" from this entity you call "Ray" simply to banish any and all tendency to blink, visible or not.

So Bill: Who is Ray and how can get my hands on...a...dongle? :D

Truck Lites is working on yet another revision of the 7" round LED headlamps, dubbed the Phase 7. It will use two high-powered LEDs -- one for high beam, the other for low -- in a reflector set up with a fluted polycarbonate lens like traditional headlamps. Should be different than all their others. Hopefully we can get some photometry data!!

I emailed Jerry again today and asked for a set ---- nope.
:nonono:

i would really like to know if someone can come up with a good install fix on the 2012 for the air bag sensor with the JW Speaker LEDs. i really want these but don't want to mess with altering the sensor or buying an extra set of stock housings to make them fit.
Buy another OE bucket assembly and longer screws. Cut the outer ring from the assembly, trim it to fit around the headlight coconuts, and mount it as a shim. Works great.
I think somebody did a write-up on JeepForum. Either on my big thread or on the LED headlight thread.

That's a great idea. I think we can all agree that Hilldweller does an incredible job with the lighting reviews and I certainly consider his advice a prerequisite when considering lighting choices. With that said I'm in for $10.

Bill, I'm serious. Just set up a paypal account and I'll send you the money. You can PM your info if you don't want to post it in the thread. I'll trust you to pick the winner however you want, I'm not concerned about that. I just want to get your unbiased opinion of the lights, that alone is worth the $10. :thumb:

Word. I think we could get more people with a kickstarter though :D (All the tech and lighting geeks would flock!)

Edit:
Actually kickstarter is rejecting the project because they don't support the "category". There are other simliar avenues though.

If you can figure a way to make it happen, then I'm in. Hilldweller's info is invaluable and purchases have definitely been influenced by his helpful knowledge. Currently I'm trying to decide on whether to fork out the $ for LED lights and the JW Speaker seems to be where I'm leaning.

It's definitely worth $10 or $20 to have the info to make a correct decision on lighting that will cost $800 - $1000.

Either of those JK-Forum members close to GA?
I could measure their lights...

Subscribed. I too would like to know about this as well. We all know that the stock headlights suck. Many times I find myself turning the switch just to see if they're on.

Question: if these lights don't pass Hilldweller's test, what would you guys get? What's the absolute best lights one can buy money being not an option?

Pretty much everybody agrees that the best LED lights are the JW Speakers. They are pricey, but you said money wasn't an issue.

The reason (aside from cost) why a lot of people are not installing the JW Speakers is that they're not plug and play. In 2011's and before, you had to grind down the plastic housing *and* move the airbag sensor.

Apparently in the 2012's you can't move the airbag sensor anymore, so you have to do a double insert. See links above for an example. I guess this approach also works for the 2011's.

If the Truck Lites match or are pretty close to the performance of the JW Speakers, they'll be a hit.

I'll report when I get mine.

I see. I'm a plug and play kind of guy. I don't like (or feel comfortable) cutting my 5 month old Jeep. I have my eye on another kit by a company called DDM. My cousin had the 55W set on his VW GTi and let me tell you those things were like 2 suns infront of his car. I don't think they use LED bulbs though but I really liked the light output.

Seems truck lite is posting directly to another jeep forum with pics of lights in use. Wish we could confirm this photo they posted. My factory 2012 headlights don't look nearly as yellow or dim as the ones depicted in their comparison. I am still waiting for an objective review than a photoshopped image from the manufacture.
