2012 lifted with exhaust mod

I finally got my Jeep suspension installed. It took 3 days, but it was worth it. I'm including some photos from my phone. I'll take better pictures after I get some of my other mods installed.

Here are a couple of photos on the rack getting the lift installed and getting ready for a wheel alignment. Also not a bad picture of my Expedition One Trail Series rear bumper and tire carrier.

Here are some photos of my aftermarket driveshaft barely clearing the stock exhaust crossover. The stock driveshaft hit the exhaust crossover, so I needed a new front driveshaft that was smaller in diameter or move the crossover pipe. I decided to do both. I've also included some photos of the exhaust crossover relocated using an AFE y-pipe for a 2012. Now that the crossover is on the otherside of the cross member, it is not under the front driveshaft. I didn't need to relocate it, but I didn't feel comfortable with only about a quarter inch of clearance at full droop. I also might put on a long arm kit in the future so I wanted to get the exhaust out of the way for that reason also. The new location for the crossover is also more protected because it is under a larger skid plate instead of running between a support bar and the cross member where the stock location had no skid at all.

That looks fantastic! Nice to have such a clean vehicle underneath to do your work on. Keep up the great work and I would love to see a few more pics of how the jeep looks from different angles with that size lift in it.

Hey thats a badass jeep. I have a 2012 rubicon and wanted to get a lift on mine too. Did you get the lift done at 4wheel parts in San Antonio.

Congrats! I have exactly the same color only that it is a 2011. Question, what are those protectors on the side steps? They look good with those wheels and I have them too, also my tires look very alike, only different brand Dick Cepek

I'll try to post more pictures after I get the front bumper and winch installed.

The side steps are Poison Spyder Brawler Rockers that I installed after they were powder coated. They are a combination rock slider, step, and lower door/body armor all wrapped into one.

Nice Rig

I've been following your build because I'm considering similar mods for my '12 JKUR. Your rig looks great and should perform even better. I'm looking at the RC 3.5 lift and similar tires and wheels. I'd like to know about highway manners after lift and tires? I drove a lifted '12 JKR and it was all over the highway.

I took the front air dam off that hangs below the front bumper, so that the tires wouldn't rub on it. After doing that, I didn't get any rubbing as long as I didn't hit any large bumps. I wouldn't try to jump any curbs or anything because the tires will rub and I wouldn't recommend putting that large of a tire on without putting some type of lift on.

I didn't do a lot of driving with the 35" tires without the lift installed. I kept the stock tires on until the night before I got the lift. I did some running around town and then the next morning I drove 20 miles to the shop. The tires rubbed on the fenders twice because of bumps in the road. One of the times that it rubbed, I hit a pothole and it sounded like I was going to tear off my fender. I got out and looked, but everything was ok. I only put the 35" tires on without the lift, so that I wouldn't have to move larger tires to the shop and take the smaller stock tires home.

So far my lift has been great. I'm currently riding around with no steering stabilizer and I don't have any tracking issues except on the occassional bad road. I've been doing city and highway driving with speeds up to 75 mph without issue. When I get on a bad road that is all patched up and the crown is terrible, I may get some slight pulling to one side or the other, but it is not something that I have to fight.

I will be installing a steering stabilizer, but so far it hasn't been an issue. The reason that I didn't put my stock stabilizer back on is because I'm running the Rock Krawler Heavy Duty Aluminum Tie Rod. Rock Krawler Catalog This thing is so beefy that I need new mounting brackets to get around the diameter of it. I'm considering a better aftermarket steering stabilizer, but I need to do some investigating first. Here is a link of the HD Aluminum Tie Rod in action: I also have part of this Rock Krawler steering kit installed. Rock Krawler Catalog I'm sure this kit is also helping with keeping things tracking true.

I'd also like to mention that my suspension is fully adjustable, so everything was able to be tweaked during the wheel alignment to get things right. All 8 of the control arm lengths can be adjusted for angles and the front and rear track bars can also be adjusted to get the axles centered correctly. Here is a link to my suspension to give you a better idea of what is under my Jeep. http://www.rockkrawler.com/pages/cat...p?r_itemID=108 I'm also using Rock Krawlers RRD shocks that they hand build specifically for this suspension.

I've spent quite a few months trying to figure out what suspension to install, but I'm no expert by any means. I almost bought a 2011 in August of 2010, but I learned about the new Pentastar that was going into the Grand Cherokee. When I heard that the 2012 Wrangler was getting that engine, I started planning my lift and all of my wish list items almost a year before I could buy a 2012.

The unannounced changes to the 2012 threw me for some last minute loops, like needing to relocate the canister between the front frame rails to get my front bumper installed; needing a new front driveshaft that I didn't think I'd need for a while; and relocating the exhaust. I've learned a lot from the knowledgeable people on this forum and doing some reading on the side. Even though I've only recently joined this forum (didn't think I should join if I didn't own a Jeep), I've been reading it for a long time. I'll try to answer your questions if I can. If I can't, I'm sure someone on the forum will know the answer.

Did you notice any performance lost or gain from the afe exhaust? I wouldn't think so, that merge is not the greatest though.

I didn't notice any performance gain, but it is difficult to tell using the seat of the pants approach. My acceleration "feels" the same as it did prior to adding the larger tires and lift. I've also gone from 32" tires to 35" tires, so my gearing has effectively changed from 4.10 gears to 3.73 gears. If there was a performance gain, the larger tires have brought the gain back to stock performance. The suspension feels more stable, corners flatter, and tracks better down the road, but I didn't buy the pipe for performance. If I get a boost, great. If not, I mainly wanted the crossover moved.

I agree that the merge is not the greatest, but the 2012 exhaust already has other issues like the exhaust loop, so I don't think the exhaust is any worse with adding the AFE y-pipe. If I'm lucky, the exhaust has gotten better with the addition of the AFE y-pipe.
