2012 + = No Auto Locker in rear! Advice please!

Ok,

So the past 2 weeks I have had an issue where my 2013 auto tranny will randomly throw codes P0732 P0733 and P0734(wrong gear ratio in 3rd etc..).

No CEL just limp mode? where it would only stay in 3rd gear.

Dealer was certain it was an issue with Superchips(I regeared to 5.13's). SuperChips is actually still investigating as they didnt have a test vehicle when I opened the trouble ticket.

Today I the dealer was actually gong to replace the speed sensor in the tranny....

however, I find out that Yukon knows that the Auto locker they make ,Grizzly, will trick the computer into thinking there is something wrong when the locker locks and frees up during turns etc....thus causing the limp mode.

This is the locker I have in the rear..installed when I regeared to 5.13.

After a quick search on Google I found the Detroit Lockers are having similar issues.

The only fix is to go with a selectable locker which the shop has offered to do with some extra cost either on labor or locker side. They are suppose to call me tomorrow with the details. I really dont think I should have to put any more out of pocket if they sold me something that wont work.

Or....

I read that disabling the Traction control would also solve it as thats where the problem starts. I have gotten the traction control to come on when turning corners then it goes off.

I guess I am just not sure if there is a reall negative to diabling the traction control completely following the instruction here:

'07-Present Wrangler's Control System - ESP Off Photo & Image Gallery

Or just get the selectable locker.

It is probably best to fix the actual problem.

But if you were someplace warm and dry, I would be tempted to say "just disable the traction control". If you are someplace that has a lot of rain and snow....you better get the actual fix. On the +2012's, it is a lot harder to get the steering wheel dance to work. Most say that can't get it to work, I think I've only seen one poster that said he got it to work.

I am in Southern Arizona. Not much snow....I guess I will wait to see what they come up with. The shop wanted to call Yukon but they were closed by the time I had called the shop that installed the locker and gears.

I guess he up side is I know the tranny is good....even if it was covered under waranty.

Does the SuperChip allow you to disable TC? I know DiabloSport does. You could shut the TC off & test it out to see if you like it before you tear it down again.

I have the FlashCal...which doesnt allow for that, but I can upgrade to the FlashPac for $180..may see if it has that option.

Chrysler said that disabling the TC doesnt turn off ABS or Brake assit....so it may not be a bad option really.

I would push the shop to replace the locker with a selectable one with no labor charge and only pay the additional cost of the parts.

I'd mention how much time you've now spent at the shop and how much of an inconvenience no Jeep has been and push for a small discount or see if they are willing to play ball with discounted future parts installs. A good relationship with a shop is a beneficial in the long run and it does seem like these guys are trying to make it right.

Now, if they said too bad so sad its the your tuner and told you to beat it, that's different. From what you posted it sounds like they spent time researching the issue and realized that the only solution is an upgrade (to selectable) or a downgrade (to stock).

I had my gears replaced a couple weeks ago and was going to go with the Yukon locker and when they started they gave me a call and said that they had just learned of this issue.

I stayed with an open rear end.

Why?
YOur going to pay labor twice to do a locker later.

I talked to Arizona Differntial today and we are going to do the EATON E Locker.

About a $500 differnce. That includes $80 labor...does anyone know if that sounds right?

The E locker is around $780 and the Yukon is around $620 depending upon where you shop.
There is only about a $150-200 difference in the price of those parts...
Now that is only the E Locker, not any electrical that needs to be installed to actuate the locker.
You should ask for an itemized break down in the price of parts, etc....

He mentioned that the e locker needed s different carrier, but i thought the carrier was more for the ring and pinion.

I'll have to ask him again tomorrow I guess.

Maybe gear oil was in there too but I don't think that should be that much.

The Jeep was bought to be a dingy behind a motorcoach after I retire.

I did my hardcore Jeepin back in the 70's. Been there, done that.
