2012 Rubicon - $1400 below invoice

My first brand new Jeep!

I've seen a lot of postings on this site about Tread Lightly and some other special pricing. All sounds good. Has anyone had luck with TruCar.com? I believe I did.

I ordered my new 2012 Rubicon on Friday for $1400 below dealer invoice.

I got a Black, 2 door automatic, auto, 4.1, black leather, hard top, power convenience, u-connect, front side airbags, tinted windows, air temp control a/c, heated engine block (I'm in NE), smokers pack - factory invoice price was $33,507, including destination.

TruCar gave me 3 dealers within 25 miles, with an instant pricing certificate by email after I configured the Jeep I wanted online. Two were about $600 below invoice, the third was guaranteed to be $1400 below invoice. All 3 dealers responded within 15 minutes by email - 2 by phone.

Technically, under TruCar the dealers only have to sell at that price if it's in stock. The one with the best price also turned out to be the most responsive, easiest to deal with - just north of Boston.

After reading tons of posts on this site (thanks guys!!!), I made my decision on the Rubi I wanted (to replace my 05 black TJ X).
The Jeep I configured (above) was not in stock. I went to the dealer fully expecting a bait and switch - or pushing all kinds of extras/increased pricing to get what I wanted.

Instead the assigned salesperson walked through all of the options, very knowledgeably. We configured the Jeep - she asked for the certificate and wrote up the order. No haggling at all. It was EXACTLY the price I was initially provided - even though they will place the order through Jeep. At $1400 below invoice, that's $32,107. I'm told about 6 weeks right now.

They did not try and sell me any extras at all. Instead, they made me very comfortable about my purchase - and were very low key about any financing I need and/or a trade in.

Not sure if this works the same throughout the US - and we seem to have quite a few dodge/chrysler/jeep dealers in Massachusetts, so maybe with competition, etc...

In any event, I think I got a great deal - and wanted to share this with the forum. I'm really looking forward to getting my Jeep - and agree with all of the other posters that this will be the longest 6 weeks of my life.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had any similar experiences. I'd be pleased to PM the dealer info to anyone who would like it.

Sounds great, now don't let them nail you with a doc fee, sometimes up to 1,000. Around here the doc fee is still $22.

In my area, the Bank of America Car Buying Service had better prices than truecar.com. Same idea, though. Got reponses from 3 dealers - only one would honor the price on a special order, though, so I worked with them. In the end, I couldn't order what I wanted and took one off the lot for an even better price (4% below invoice).

Congrats! Great price. Now don't lose what you gained by signing up for any overpriced service/extended warranty package.

Consumer reports have something similar. I tried and got a $700 below invoice quote from 3 dealers. However, none of them had the exact jeep I wanted. I wanted a 2Dr Cherry red rubicon with manual tran. One of those dealers emailed saying they have something close..which is a 4 door flame red sahara with Auto tran...close indeed!!

I didn't bother ordering through them, since I found a dealer who didn't participate in the consumer report thing but had what I wanted and offered me a better quote of $900 or so below invoice. Went for that.

How much total off of the sticker did that come out to.....if. don't mind me asking which dealer were you happy with ...Kelley jeep?...I'm asking because Chrysler just bought my jeep back due to leaks and am shopping again ..thanks

According to the online information provided when I configured (above) through Trucar:

MSRP: $35,783
Market Avg: $34,203
Factory Invoice: $33,507
Dealer Cost: $32,361

Again, I got a price of $32,107 - which is a bit better than 4% below invoice, including destination. Unfortunately, in Massachusetts there is also a 6.25% sales tax... oh well.

I will definitely avoid extended warranties/extra dealer options, etc. - though none were pushed when I ordered (but there's plenty of time after my Jeep comes in...) Thanks for the warnings.

I don't have any affiliation or other relationship with Trucar or any dealer - I'm just a careful shopper. I'd be pleased to provide the dealer info to you directly if you PM me.

Glad to hear that many of you got similarly good deals elsewhere. I always hate the haggling process involved with buying a car - and really had a good experience for a change.

I had similar luck. I went to truecar.com and researched what their information was before I went to the dealer. One advantage I had going in was a supplier (friends and family) pricing. I wound up (don't have the exact numbers) with my MW3 JKU at MSRP of just below, like 50 below, 46K. And after my 1% below invoice and talk down, I wound up at 41,800. Didn't think I did too bad for my first vehicle order.
I would definately recommend these types of sites to anyone that is thinking about getting a new car. I feel that they ultimately provided me with enough information about dealer hold-backs and incentives that in the end would have cost me a lot of money if I hadn't have researched the numbers before my purchase.

Good deals can definitely be had if you talk to the right person at the right time. I dealt directly with the sales manager during the last month of the year. He was also recommended by a mutual friend and I brought him 4 Jeep sales (2 of which were mine). He knocked my Jeeps down to 3% under invoice and then applied a $1,000 Concourse lease rebate after the taxes. In total I ended up a little more than 6% under invoice.

My company gets us an 'affiliates discount' thru Chrysler which they say is 1% below invoice. I ordered my '12 Rubi, sticker was 35,390 and I got it for 32,726

Hey Guys, 1st post... long time lurker. Leaned tons from you guys over the past few years that helped me big time to build up mt '97 TJ. Anyhow, I just ordered a 2012 JKU Rubicon from Manhattan Jeep using Zag pricing. I was a Penfed affilaite but i don't think it matters, Usaa, Amex, Truecar are all the same I think. They all use the truecar engine for pricing. Their Zag price was $2050 under factory invoice and they honored it to the penny. All the invoice prices matched perfectly with the JK info thread on here.
The only caveat I can see is that the destination fee is included in the base price on zag/truecar. It is broken out ($900) on the dealer pricing sheet. If I had not noticed I might have paid it twice.
All in all I'm expecting my 2012 jku rubi for 34,500 that had a 39,200 sticker. Zag put me in a few hundred below employee pricing. I could not be happier!!
Edit: I forgot to mention that I am waiting for my tread lightly controll #. I will try and stack the discount but they were unaware if that was possible.

Also remember, the last two or three days of the month are when the best deals happen. When I was in the business it was all about unit volume by that point in the month. A few short deals would be averaged into the total deals for the months.

Totally agree. But as it is, I can hardly wait the 6 weeks. The deal was good enough - so let the gang in Ohio begin!!
