2012 Rubicon Gear Oil change

Ive had my 2012 Unlimited Rubicon off road a few times now and have had it through some pretty deep water. With 8000 miles I wanted to drain and fill the front and rear Dana 44s and the transfer case. I used royal purple 75w 140 gear oil and only drained by the plug. I didnt take covers off. Old oil looked fine with very little metal dust on magnets. My question is, my diffs only took about 1 1/4 qts each to start overflowing out of fill hole. Reading other threads they say 2 qts each axle. Do you get less of the old fluid out by using drain plug only? Transfer case took just about 2 qts of ATF 4. Thanks

Dave
