2012 sahara gears

Have 2012 4dr sahara auto and will be putting 285/70r17s on and was wondering if the 3.21 gears will be ok?

3.21?? I'm pretty sure they are 3.88s but maybe I'm wrong. I know I'm running 33x12.5x15 and they are fine. I'm going up to 35x12.5x15 soon so new gears.

I heard they were bigger on automatic but window sticker says 3.21 so I'm not really sure what they are

Pre-2012, non-Rubicon autos came with 3.73s. Starting in 2012, 3.21 is the stock ratio for autos.

As tire size goes up, you'll lose power and MPGs. How much is "too much"? Up to you.

with the penstar, they might be ok. i had 3.21 in my 2007 Sahara 6 speed with some nitto 31/32 in tires (cant remember). Didn't seem to have any low end torque or the power to get out of its own way. always shifting to keep the speed up on the slightest hill. Got a 2012 Rubi stock with 4:10's and love it. jmho

Did you already order your 2012? If you know you want bigger wheels...why not get a 2012 with 3.73's?
As MTH stated, you will lose power and MPG....it is up to you as to what is OK.
