2012 sport delivery questions

I am going to pull the trigger today on a 2012 sport. Only options are A/C and Slush Mats. I read the 'Delivery Check List" but still have a few questions that I need help with.

Do grab handles come with the jeep? Should the sales person demonstrate the soft top going down and up? It comes with nitrogen in 4 tires I would think the spare should have the same, your thoughts. When I read the delivery check list (as many as I could find) it was mentioned to have the dealer prep the car then I should do the inspection. Did the dealer you dealt with have any problems spending the time and money prepping the jeep without signed papers. One last thing. If you have anything to add please do so.

Thanks in advance. Tommy B.

grab handles do not come with the sport. you can buy them very cheap online if you want them

i was in a hurry so i did not have them demonstrate the top. if you have time ask them to do it. it is tricky the first few times so it could help.

i think the whole nitrogen thing is a crock personally. but yeah, if you got that in the 4 tires i guess it should be in the spare as well.

mine was ordered from the factory so all prepping was done before i arrived. one thing i would check is to see if the straps to tie down the freedom top and the ones to roll up the back window are in the vehicle. they were not when i got mine.

good luck

Absolutely force the sales team to put the top down, off, on, up, and then do it yourself with their help.. untill u got it right. that's why they earn the big buck$. and it is tricky. So before you sign off, do it a few times.

straps?? i didnt get any straps with mine either...

Was kinda weird when i went to pick mine up (last month), he kinda just showed me the car, led me to the drivers side, said jump in, and then opened the door so i could leave... I thought that was weird, so jumped out and just took my time inspecting the whole vehicle, inside outside and under. He must have thought i was crazy lying on the floor under the Jeep to inspect the lift they had put in.

I also made sure the jack and toolkit were in place as ive heard of guys who picked up thier spanking Jeep and were missing the Jack.

As it is, it turns out, my spare wheel locknut is missing and is on order now with them.

What is with putting 'gas' in your tires? BUT this I do know, do a 5 tire rotation so I guess you should have all 5 done.

I found some really great grab handles and other "must-haves" online from the big "Q". Many other sources. Don;t have a soft top but I had my dealer accompany me and go over EVERYTHING.....and they were VERY happy to do so. I also opened the hood and double checked fluids and security.

I was "once-upon-a-time" an Air Force aircraft mechanic......I treat my rides like they are planes. Do a real examination.

My dealer clearly didn't know what he was doing. He didn't know how to take the freedom tops off and gave me a lot of mis information. What I would suggest is searching You Tube for Jeep videos. That's how I learned how to properly switch my tops, work the soft top etc. That way you don't go in there blind. CONGRATS! On your new Jeep you're going to love it!

There are two small black straps with Velcro on the ends. These are for soft tops when you open up just the front panel. You are supposed to use the straps to tie it down after you fold it back. The other straps are for rolling up the back plastic window. They snap up to the top somehow. All four straps were missing from mine so they had to grab some from another wrangler

I copied this from the 2012 Information thread. It should help you out a bit!...
Check EVERYTHING you can think of BEFORE YOU SIGN. Its the last time you are going to be the one running the show...

IF you have a softtop make sure they test it with you. Mine had a bad clip above the passanger door and wouldnt click back in, so they ordered a new one right then. There is no debating that I somehow broke it.. it was broke already!

Anyways heres the tips on delivery from Milious

8. The delivery

Ahead of the delivery inform your salesperson that you do NOT want anyone to drive the vehicle (outside of a short test drive during prep). Tell them that during dealer prep (PDI) to save ALL paperwork, tags, build reports, etc. that come with the vehicle. Make sure they save the original window sticker and request that it be carefully removed and not torn off.

At the time of delivery, inspect every square inch of the exterior, look for any dings, dents, paint flaws, panel alignment, etc. Same with the interior. Any defects should be noted in writing BEFORE you sign on the dotted line.

Go over the window sticker and make sure everything listed is exactly as what you ordered. Verify that you have manuals (paper "quick guides" and DVD owners manual). Verify any ordered/add-on accessories.

Be alert and on guard when you are in the finance office signing the papers. This is when you are most vulnerable ("anxious") and will you come under a lot of high pressure for add-ons. The smartest thing you can do during this phase to to NOT order ANYTHING additional. Regardless of the deal ("only $7 more dollars per month") don't cave in. Anything that you feel you can't live without can be added or purchased later. This is NOT the time to buy an extended warranty.

Small stuff, but still important - when you get home, check the air pressure in all tires with an accurate gauge. In decades of ordering new vehicles I have yet to get one with the proper air pressure in all 4 tires. If you have the tire pressure readout display, those numbers should be very close to what an accurate gauge will show.

Good luck to everyone!

Should he? Yes, several times. Did he for me? He tried and had no idea what he was doing.

The first time I did it at home was 5 minutes to drop it - 90 frustating minutes to put it back up. Don't use the quick start printed guide. Use the step-by-step in the manual. Things have to be done in a specific order or it doesn't work and the quick guide jumps over a few.

After you've done it a dozen times you can raise it in 5 minutes.
Make sure everything mates well and no seals are pinched or "off true" or it'll leak.

Enjoy it
