2012 Squeek and Clunk

Just picked up my 2012 JKU Rubicon yesterday. After we got home and removed the hard top I noticed a squeek when moving. Did some searches and found that some people had fenders that squeeked, mine seem to be tight and aren't squeeking.

Also have a clunk when moving from 1st to 2nd. Anyone have these issues or know what it might be? I am concerned that it might be a bearing or something worse for the squeek.

I got my JK Rubicon 4 days ago. Nothing going on here with the squeaking body but I have noticed a little bit of a rough sound when going from 1st to 2nd.

Also, I had trouble getting my front diff and sway bar to disengage while in 4L last night. I got a continual blinking dash light.

I have a squeaking in my 2011 JKU-R when driving at 10-15mph. I hear it as I am off the gas coasting when the engine isn't hiding the noise. I have 700 miles on the rig.

Have you driven a jeep before?

Your front steering components have some movement and will clunk if you hit a bump or your shift is not smooth. I think it's called the track bar or drag link or both that are supposes to have up and down movement.

My last vehicle was a 2008 JKU but it was an auto. The clunk is new to me. Seems like no matter how I shift the clunk is there.

The squeek seems, this afternoon, to come and go. But it is hard to hear unless I am driving next to something so the sound can reflect back. I'll take it in tomorrow and let them look at both issues.

The local dealer had it today and couldn't recreate the problem. They took all 4 wheels off and checked to make sure everything was tight and nothing was rubbing. Just got it home, I'll have to drive it some to verify. Also, the clunk they said was normal.

"could not recreate the problem" don't they always say that? Lol

You'll be fine, a jeep in like no other vehicle. I know it's new but, you will get used to those little noises. A jeep in no ways is a quiet vehicle.

I can almost guarantee the the clunk you here is the front steering components. All my jeeps have done it, noticed when shifting if the road is uneven or my shifting is not smooth--I hear it

The clunk is there when I am driving straight and shift between 1st and 2nd and even 2nd to 3rd. Do you know what steering components might be causing the problem?

1-3 and 2-3 are where most of the vehicles torque is so if you let of the gas or shift not smooth, the jeep will kinda lurch and you will feel and hear the noise.

"All of your steering links (tie rod ends) are a flexible ball design to ensure full rotation of the various parts during turns and bumps, etc. Grabbing the drag link and rotating it easily is totally NORMAL"

Stole this quote ^^^

Just put my 17" M/T classic lock blacks on my 2012 with 35" tires and 3.73 gears and now when I shift under acceleration from 1-2 there is a clunk but it is no different than my 2008 lifted jk so now I know what you are talking about... it is a wrangler, not a Mercedes she gonna make noises

I'll be investigating this when mine comes in, in about two months (Crush, ugh). There should be NO clunking in the track bar or drag link, at all. Suspension components are not supposed to clunk -- this indicates binding or another issue. Anybody arguing otherwise has never driven a properly set up rig with Johnny Joints. Clunking = wear = failure, at some point. Some whining from the factory Clevite joints is fine when articulating, but definitely no clunking or banging.

Clunking while shifting is something I never experienced with my TJ's AX-15 manual, so I'll have to see if mine does it to find out what it is.

Did the squeaking problem go away for you? Just wondering if you ever figured out what it was.

I took it in and they couldn't get the squeek to repeat. It hasn't occurred since. Probably something got caught and fell out or something like that.
