2012 vs 2013

Getting ready to upgrade to a JK from my old TJ. So, with my budget at approx $23k, I find that I can buy either a '12 or '13 for roughly the same price. For instance, there is a private seller locally with a '12, fully loaded, 14k miles for $23,900. A local dealer will sell me a new '13 with just AC and Automatic Trans for $23100. So, money being equal, would y'all take a brand new car, or one with a few more options and a few more miles? Plus I've been reading about the dreaded 'engine tick'. Is it more likely on a 2012?
Or I suppose a 3rd choice is to get a 2011 model with the older, slower but maybe more reliable engine, and save some $$ ?
Sorry if this has been covered, I did a search and came up empty....
All advice greatly appreciated!

Is that because of the engine problems? Or just because it's new?

It's a compromise (i'd go for new)...you have no clue how many wheeling adventures the old owner went on, regardless of maintenance records.

I'd go for the new one... There have been quite a few misadventure threads involving new Jeeps and novice off-roaders. I find it kind of sketchy when someone is selling a year old vehicle. I guess since you're buying from a private seller you at least have the advantage of seeing if they're a yahoo and if some circumstance like a lost job is leading to the sale.

Get the 13 I have both a 12 and 13 and seats are way more comfortable and besides the 12 could be a engine issue like mine..I am awaiting parts as we speak for the "ticking penstar". But either way it's a JEEP what's not to like..

I was in the same dilema. Found a nice '12 with 13k miles but opted to spend a bit more get a zero mile '13. Go with a '13 and upgraded it as you please and budget allows.
