Finally got to take mine out after owning for nine days. Me, the wife, and our three girls went up to Mark Twain National Forest yesterday and drove the trails. We were by ourselves so didn't wheel hard. Below are a few pics and yes a flex pic.

I'm waiting a couple of months before I go wheeling. I need to let the new wear off first. I've already got some Jeeper friends trying to get me to go with them. I can't wait but at least want to make one or two payments FIRST. This will be my last new one for many years to come.....I hope. I've already got some places in mind!

First I'll get a skid plate to protect my transmission cooler line. Yikes, glad I looked.

OK ... maybe a month: first trip is 9/23, but I'm going to try to get a quick 'real' shake-down before then.

We tried but the wife couldn't lift her side of the top. I've got a soft top on order and will have a buddy come help when it's here.

Great! This mean I have an excuse then with a Sport?

I found a great spot finally to try some stuff out. Got an appointment tomorrow morning to drop off the Jeep to finally get the heated seats in. Maybe Tuesday.

Think I get this Jeep Thing. After all I own both now.

I can't believe that jeep routed one of the cooler fluid lines UNDER the tranny--I can't imagine WHY ?

re: transmission cooler line.

While it is between the oil pan and trans pan, going over a branch could easily kick the branch up and tear this thing off, spilling ATF+4 all over, leaving it for dead.

I think I'll rack this truck at my buddies shop and go through it more thoroughly, seeing what else needs protection. I was planning on adding skids, but didn't expect to see something like this.

My thoughts exactly! That is even more dumb than the exhaust loop. I guess they wanted to sell some towing and replacement trannies after the line was ripped out and all the fluid pumped into a creek 10 miles from the nearest telephone pole.

Man, I've never seen that done with auto cooler lines and I doubt that anybody makes skids forit--

I noted a ROCKHARD skid for one of the 2012 owners, but that was wrong, I'm sure the frame mounts are different also-

Google "2012 jeep auto skid plates" and see what comes up

Good luck

Good luck

I'm sure Rock Hard (or someone else) will produce a skid plate for this. The '12 might have some different mounting points than on the '11, but there will be a market, so someone will make one. Worst case, I fabricate something out of sheet steel or stainless with my plasma cutter. I just think that anyone who wheels their '12 is made aware of this before something unfortunate happens.

Otay Trails/US border

I took the family on the Jeeps first off road event. I think I took the left trail and ended up running along the US border fence instead of the the intended route. I spoke with a border patrol guys and he indicated it would be OK to continue but also said he doesn't usually see private vehicles on that trail so we continued on. Someone left the gate open! The trail was fairly easy with switchbacks. I've also learned I need to get a National Forest Adventure Pass and a CB to do most of the trails in the back country of San Diego.

This isn't really 'off-road', but after 40 miles of this dirt road through remote coast range ranch country:

Attachment 65673

I can see that I'm going to be using spray bedliner on the front face of my purty painted fenders after a while. But, it's a Jeep! And, the plastic fenders aren't going to rust any time soon. So, I find myself, surprisingly, not caring about the dozen or so rock chips on each side.

Edit: This is the 'best' stretch of this road. Some of it is downright scary!

That's why so many of us made the comments we did about the Rubicon having painted fenders.

I pulled over onto some gravel to take these pictures. It kicked up some dust. It was hard core.

I will manage to get this thing off the road after a few payments, and preferably after I get a bumper that I can mount my Warn on. My kind of wheeling may not meet the standards of others, but it is wheeling. But seriously, look at that thing. I'll be pulling up to Range Rovers in Moab asking if they have any Grey Poupon.

One thing I haven't seen noted is the need to de-stone your tires before getting back on paved highway. I must have pulled 40 rocks out from between the tire treads. Hopefully I saved someones windshield.

We did the same but I was more worried about throwing them down the side of the jeep. The Rubicon tires are bad about holding the stones. Reminds me of a Keystone commercial.

The MT/Rs that came on my TJ Rubi were much worse than the BFGs. I had KM1s after I lifted the TJ and the JK came with KM2s. I wouldn't own MT/Rs again unless I lived in the Rockies or Dessert SW.

The MTR take offs I put on my Tj were horrible. Found out later it was do to the E rating they used with the 16 inch wheel

A C load will ride a hell of a lot better, even a D for that matter.

That's what I did - 33x12.50x15 for a C load rating, along with Old Man Emu springs and shocks. Would not rule out OME for the JK based on the experience.

You score major points for all 4 doors off! Your top folding skills need a little work though.

Hi guys

please explain a little better the rating thing...
I'm after this look and would like to know if there's an optimum way in doing this.

If anyone know which Jeep this is I would appreciate more info on it

cheers,
Charles
