Rule of thumb. When it gets dark in color or every 3K miles. They say change at 6K. I think my Jeep was still breaking in 24K miles. And I use GTX 5W-20. I also did an early transfer case/rear end oil change at 18000. I think it suppost to be at 24000. You want to catch all problems now with your Jeep especially for Warranty issues.

A lot of lengthy discussions on this topic. Here's one specific to the 2012:

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/201...es-101916.html

The short story is, many, including myself, like the old way of doing it - change early and often. Typical is 500 miles, 1500 miles with dino, then 3 or 4000 miles with synthetic, then every 3 or 4000, unless sever driving conditions call for earlier changes....

Some think it's OK to push the manufacturers warning not to exceed 8000 miles and use that as a change interval... Not a good idea, IMHO.

Also read up on oil at Bob the Oil Guy: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-101/
