A lot of lengthy discussions on this topic. Here's one specific to the 2012:
The short story is, many, including myself, like the old way of doing it - change early and often. Typical is 500 miles, 1500 miles with dino, then 3 or 4000 miles with synthetic, then every 3 or 4000, unless sever driving conditions call for earlier changes....
Some think it's OK to push the manufacturers warning not to exceed 8000 miles and use that as a change interval... Not a good idea, IMHO.
